As first reported by RedRC, RC racing pioneer Ron Ton has died.

Ton and Pieter Bervoets founded Serpent in 1980 after the pair had begun experimenting with building their own car for several years. Ton scored two EFRA European Championships in 1/8-scale nitro on-road competition, in 1976 and 1980. Ton continued designing Serpent's cars until 1996, during which time he also created what is commonly known as the Centax clutch. Ton sold his stake in Serpent to Bervoets in 1997.

LiveRC offers its condolences to Ton and his family, as well as the Serpent community.
