Speed RC, host of numerous east coast off-road events including the JConcepts Indoor National Series, closed its existing location with plans to re-open in a new facility known as Speed RC 2.0. A shocking announcement has been made this afternoon via the Speed RC Facebook page from owners Scott Speed and TJ Bell thanking the R/C community for the past three years, and sadly announcing that the facility will not be re-opening after all.

Announcement from Speed RC [via Facebook]:

It is with great sadness that we announce that Speed RC will not be re-opening. We’ve truly enjoyed the last three years and hope to continue to see you all at races in the area. After all, the entire reason we opened Speed RC in the first place was for our love of RC racing!

Unfortunately (and fortunately) the RC industry has become an industry where most racers are able to gain sponsorship. It becomes very difficult for hobby shops to actually sell parts & tires since everyone is already buying them at a discount through their sponsorships. Due to this, we have lost money for three years in a row now. We’ve also unfortunately been seeing a lot of theft in our hobby shop to go with the downward struggle we were already on. Even with the headcounts we have been able to bring in for races, we just haven’t been able to make ends meet. After much debate, we have come to the conclusion that it is time to close the doors to Speed RC. We apologize greatly to all of our loyal customers and hope you understand our decision. Thank you for being with us the last three years!

We will continue to sell product through our website, www.speedrc.com. Everything will be marked down starting this week.
