Having discontinued the original YZ-2 buggy, Yokomo has announced two upcoming buggy kits - the YZ-2CA carpet/astroturf edition and the YZ-2DT dirt edition. Utilizing a new aluminum main chassis, the two versions use dedicated transmissions to suit grip levels of the radically different surfaces.
The YZ-2CA uses a “carpet spec” lay-down 3-gear transmission equipped with a new idler gear, and comes with long suspension arms and a lightweight body. Here’s what the tranny looks like:
The “dirt spec” transmission stands taller and is fitted with both a ball differential and gear cover. The DT also uses a composite shock tower, completing a package intended to increase traction and make the buggy easier to drive on lower grip surfaces. This is the dirt spec transmission:
The YZ-2CA will begin shipping in early March, with the YZ-2DT available by the end of March. Here’s what Yokomo Europe said about the new cars:

The YZ-2 Carpet/Astro Edition (CA) has a new designed 3 gear transmission has applied for Carpet special configuration, long suspension arm and light weight body. All these specifications will provide smooth control drive on high grip surface condition.
YZ-2 Carpet/Astro Edition new parts:
Those 3 parts are possible to mount on the conventional YZ-2 without any manual modification on main chassis. The dimension of new chassis are the same with the current one.
The YZ-2 Dirt Edition (DT) has a new designed 3 gear transmission has applied for the dirt special configuration, ball differential and special selected composite shock tower will also capable of reducing influence of drive reaction force on dirt. Gear cover is also standard for dust proof while at the race.
