Press release from Serpent:
For the WC-winning Viper 977 Serpent has been testing quite a few different versions of carbon fibre chassis plates over the last 5-6 months. The optional chassis combines carbon fibre and aluminum inserts / stiffeners.
As chassis flex is used as an important set-up tool, the right type of carbon fibre and the design of the inserts and plate is very critical. With the last version we are now really happy with results both for increased grip and steering.
The rear aluminum insert supports the section of the engine and creates sufficient cooling and ads stiffness. The front insert is used to alter flex as needed depending on each track. The inserts are connected with machined flanged threaded alu nuts from the top, so the carbon wont damage.
The chassis with both inserts is about 60 grams lighter than the same in aluminum.
Serpent brass weights can be used to position the weight in preferred places.
