Hobby People may not be the first place that racers think of browsing for equipment unless they’re at a race near one of their 16 Southern California locations (with two more in Vegas) and in desperate need of parts or hardware to fix their cars. But that doesn’t mean that incoming hobbyists that regularly shop at Hobby People can’t turn into racers - and with new gear like what they’re showing off at the Nitro Challenge, that transition might come easier (and cheaper) than you might think.
The chain of stores is part of Global Hobby Distributors, which also imports Airtronics products into the U.S., and offers many vehicles and products under its in-house brands. Among Hobby People's new “Pro” line of servos is a race-ready unit with specs that make it ideal for almost any application. The digital, standard-sized HP-Pro BL-320 has an all-aluminum case and is totally waterproof. It uses a brushless motor and a 25-tooth spline, and its impressive .08 sec/236 oz.-in. specs at 6.0 volts jump to .055 sec. and 320 oz.-in. at an unregulated 8.4 volts.
The Activator Ultra 100 uses a 3-inch backlit color touch-screen and a menu clearly inspired by a Windows Phone to charge all Lithium- and Nickel-based battery chemistries, as well as Lead-Acid. Users can create multiple charge profiles and even access graphs to monitor charge performance.
At just 100 watts of output, the Activator Ultra 100 will best be appreciated by those using 2S packs, but its AC/DC compatibility and handy features would make it perfect for practice days.
