The 2015 Surf City Classic was held this past weekend at OC R/C Raceway in Huntington Beach, California. With the reputation of having one of the best tracks and facilities in the country, this years event once again sold out very quickly...being the go to event of the summer!

Team Orion would be very well represented at this years Surf City Classic consisting of: Ryan Cavalieri, Ryan Maifield, Dakotah Phend, Jake Thayer, & Frank Root.

Race Schedule:

Friday, August 28th: Open Practice
Saturday, August 29th: 3 Rounds of Qualifying
Sunday, August 30th : 1 Round of Qualifying & 10-minute Single A-Main Events

2wd Modified Buggy

In the 2wd Modified Buggy class, Team Orion's Ryan Maifield would take the TQ honors!

Maifield would go onto lead every lap and take the Win in the 10-minute A-Main over his Team Orion teammate Ryan Cavalieri by 4-seconds. AE'S Kody Numedahl would make a great comeback to finish on the podium in 3rd.

In the 4wd Modified Buggy class, it was also Team Orion's Ryan Maifield that would go onto take the overall TQ!

Team Orion's Ryan Cavalieri would go onto dominate the 10-minute A-Main and take the Win by over 15-seconds ahead of 2nd place finisher Spencer Rivkin. AE's Rob Gillespie would better his starting position to round out the podium in 3rd.

In the Modified Truck class, Team Orion's Dakotah Phend would dominate qualifying to take the overall TQ.

Dakotah got a great hole-shot from his #1 starting position and went on to lead every lap to take the Win in the 10-minute A-Main! Finishing only 4-seconds behind Phend was his Team Orion teammate Frank Root who put in a great run to finish 2nd overall! AE's Team Manager Brent Thielke put in a solid performance to finish 3rd overall.

In the 2wd Modified Short Course class, it was all Team Orion's Ryan Cavalieri in qualifying who took the overall TQ!

Cavalieri then lead the race from tone to tone to take the Win by almost a full lap in the 10-minute A-Main. Finishing 2nd overall was AE's Kody Numedahl and 3rd overall AE's Kyle Layton.

Jake went onto lay it down during the 10-minute A-Main event to take the Win by 11-seconds over his Team Orion teammate Frank Root. Finishing 3rd overall would be TLR's Ryan Dunford.
