2015 JBRL Series Finale - Mayo Leads Team Associated to 5 JBRL Championships

This past weekend was the series finale of the JBRL Electric Series. The JBRL series runs throughout Southern California and averages about 150-200 entries all year long. To change things up a little the track was run wet rather than dry like in previous years. Team Associated was in attendance and looking to add a few more championships to the 2015 season. On hand was Jake Mayo, Nick Wautlet and Lyle Spangler. Mayo raced in the Modified 2WD, 4WD and Stadium Truck classes. Spangler also participated in the Super Stock Buggy class, while Wautlet competed in the Modified Buggy class. After Friday practice was over, Mayo seemed to be the one to beat.

Qualifying showed the rest of the racers that Jake Mayo was the one to beat. In the 2WD Modified class, Mayo put his local knowledge of wet-track racing to good use as he TQ'd by being the only driver to go the extra lap. In the Truck class, Mayo had no problem setting the pace for the rest of the field, but in 4WD he had a little bit competition from some of the local fast kids. At the end of qualifying Mayo put in a run fast enough to take the TQ and lock in his sweep of qualifying. Adding another TQ to the weekend would be Lyle Spangler after locking up the Super Stock Buggy class. Nick Wautlet qualified for the A Main in the 5th position in both Modified classes.

Starting with the 2WD Modified class, of which the championship was still up for grabs, Mayo put his Reedy-powered B5M out in front of the field with ex-teammate Kevin Motter in tow. A few minutes into the race, Mayo stretched out quite a big lead between him and the rest of the field, but a mistake with a lapper caused him to lose quite a bit of time. After the incident, he got back on track in the 6th position. With the points lead at stake, and Motter being only a few points back out front, Mayo knew he had to put his head down and make things happen quickly. With time running out, Mayo made it up to the third spot and saved his championship! This was the first of two Championships that he would claim.

Next up was Modified Stadium Truck. Mayo's Reedy-powered T5M had looked great all through qualifying and the main was no exception. Even with a small bobble that caused him to drop back to third position Mayo still showed that he had the fastest pace by getting the lead back within a few laps. He eventually took the win by two seconds. With that win in the final round, it gave Mayo the overall win for the series and his second 2015 JBRL Championship.

Last Modified class of the day was the Modified 4WD division. With the series title already locked up, Mayo needed to still put in a late series charge to secure the second overall spot. That is just what he did. He drove his Reedy-powered B44.3 out front from start to finish and secured a second-place overall finish in the series.

Also winning championships in the series using Team Associated vehicles were Dillon Davies, Tyler Sweany and Rick Martin. Davies claimed the championship in Stock Truck with his T5M, while Sweany and Martin put their B5M Factory Lites on top for Stock Buggy and Rookie. These completed the five 2015 JBRL Championships for Team Associated!

Team Associated would like to thank Jimmy Babcock and the whole JBRL crew for yet another great year of racing. We also are looking forward to next year's series as well!
