2016 ROAR On Road Paved Nationals held at Valkaria RC in Valkaria, Florida

It was a blazingly hot and humid week at the 2016 ROAR On-Road Paved Nationals!

Team Powers driver Ken Moss had walked away as a ROAR National Champion in World GT by the end of A2.

Ken had only qualified 3rd as his teammate Eric Vaustin edged him out by qualifying 2nd, but Steve Boice was able to take TQ honors by being consistently quick in each round of qualifying. Qualifying concluded on Saturday in normal fashion for a National event and the mains were scheduled for Sunday.

Sunday morning practice would show that the track had changed a bit overnight due to high humidity and possibly overnight rain. World GT A1 was the first race for the day and the track conditions would test everyone's skill. The first two laps of the race found the drivers struggling for grip at the end of the long straightaway with the Spec BSR foams until the tires settled in.

Once things settled out in A1, TQ Steve Boice had found himself running in 3 rd position where he would ultimately finish in round one. Team Powers own Eric Vasutin was able to drive a smooth race and was rewarded by being able to maintain the lead until the 5-minute mark where his Team Powers' teammate, Ken Moss, took the lead. Ken had been applying pressure the whole time and a small bobble by Vasutin in the chicane allowed Moss to take the lead. By keeping his run smooth and clean for the remainder of the race, Ken Moss finished with the win. Moss wins A1, followed by Vasutin, and Boice.

World GT A2 would start off with similar loose traction for the first few laps until the tires came in. In the first lap Boice led and Moss was able to put a pass on Vasutin in the chicane giving him second place. Moss subsequently spun at the end of the straight during the first lap, putting him at the back of the pack, but his day would not end there! While Boice and Vasutin had stretched out a lead on the first lap they both had trouble concluding lap two and both spun, yet recovered. However, Boice and Vasutin still had trouble getting back up to speed and this allowed Moss to gain the lead and never look back. For the next 5 minutes, his teammate Vasutin was close behind for the remainder of the race but Moss was able to run an extremely clean race, managing his laps and the gap. Ken Moss ended the race clinching the 2016 ROAR National Championship with wins in A1 and A2. Vasutin and Boice would battle it out in A3 to round out the podium with Boice getting the upper hand finishing 2nd and Team Powers Vasutin rounding out the podium in 3rd.

Ken Moss was running a Team Powers Actinium 13.5 motor in his Speedmerchant WGT-4.
