Two-time European Champion David Ronnefalk and his D815 V2 buggy earned the top seed over two rounds of timed practice on Monday, carrying momentum into the first of three days of qualifying. Ronnefalk’s three fastest consecutive laps were two-tenths of a second faster than that of HB Racing teammate Ty Tessmann, who edged first-round surprise Davide Ongaro by fifteen-thousandths of a second.
Rather than use each driver’s single-fastest time to determine the seeding, IFMAR opted to assign qualifying-style points to the two timed practice rounds and then use each driver’s best score, with the second score used as the tiebreaker.
As for the reseeding process that will be used for qualifying rounds - during which there will be no further re-sort - the drivers will be broken into blocks of 39 names (three heats’ worth) and then shuffled evenly. For example, the first, fourth, seventh, tenth, etc. seeds in the first block will go into one heat. Then second, fifth, eighth, eleventh, etc. seeds will go into the next heat. It’s incredibly complicated, but it ensures relatively comparable drivers will be grouped together for qualifying without strictly having “A,” “B,” “C” heats as other races - in my opinion, it’s the only way to go.
Here are the overall seeding results, including the times from the final round:
