Team Losi Racing driver Tanner Denney was awarded the overall title of the AKA U.S. Open Fuel Championships at Fear Farm RC Raceway after totaling the finishing results of the E-Buggy, Truck and Nitro Buggy categories. Ryan Maifield won the E-Buggy main event with Joe Bornhorst second and Denney finished third. Denney finished second in the Truck final behind eventual overall runner-up Joe Bornhorst, and won his Nitro Buggy semifinal with a time that was one second faster than the opposing semi - which netted him the class win and enough points for the overall title. Maifield, Bornhorst and Denney were each awarded $500 for their class victories.

Here’s Denney’s report, via Facebook:

"Well the 2016 US Open is over! Qualifying went well I ended up 2nd in Ebuggy, 3rd in Truggy and 3rd and Pro Buggy. As mains rolled around and crazy weather came and ended up raining the majority of the day! In Ebuggy it hadn't rained yet and I ended up in 3rd behind joe in 2nd and Maifield taking the win! In Truggy I ended up 2nd with a long hard battle! In Pro Buggy with the rain coming down hard during both semis I ended up starting TQ by just 1 second and with the mains being called I got the overall win in Buggy!!! Lastly with running all three classes there was a grand champion of the race and I ended up taking it overall Joe Bornhorst in second!! With all that said thank you to all my sponsors for all the support and my dad for all the pit work!!"

Here's what the second semifinal looked like in the rain in a video from race organizer Tim Lime:
