XRAY team driver, Danny Bartholomew, had a successful weekend at the opening round of the Minnesota Offroad Series, as he took home the win in both nitro and electric buggy.

Here is the full race report from Danny:

"I ventured up north for the 1st round of the Minnesota Off-Road Series. Round 1 was held at the Motodome just outside Motley, MN which is a couple hours northwest of the Twin Cities. A little late April snow and chilly temps didn’t deter racers from all over the upper Midwest from attending with racers for N. and S. Dakota, Wisconsin, Iowa and of course Minnesota representing. The Motodome is turned from a winter motox practice haven to a killer R/C track a couple times a year for us R/C’ers. Over 140 entries were spread over a wide variety of classes. Nitro Buggy bringing in 30 entries as the biggest class, I would also run my 1/8 E-Buggy.

My Electric converted XB9 was really good so I only ran 1 practice pack and shelved it for qualifying, to concentrate on getting my new XB9 ’13 dialed in as this was my first race on the updated platform.

Qualifying kicked off Saturday morning, After 3 round I would be overall TQ in E-Buggy and would start 6th in Nitro Buggy. It was a very tight group behind TQ, Mugen’s Josh Ford, with only 2 points separating 2nd thru 6th on the grid.

I showed up early on Sunday to take advantage of a little open practice before the mains began. I made a few adjustments to make my XB9 ’13 a little more driver friendly and to make sure my Picco Engine was tuned to perfection. In the Nitro Buggy main, I got up to 2nd by lap 3 and gave chase to early leader Neil Feneis. I was able to get by for the lead; a little later I had a great battle with Kyosho’s local young gun Seth VanDalen but with a couple less mistakes and great fuel mileage from my Picco Boost 5TR I was able to grab firm control of the race by the mid way point and never looked back.

I would also capitalize on my TQ in E-Buggy and Win the 1/8 Electric Buggy main.

Big thanks to RC America, Xray USA, O’Donnell Fuel, Pro-line Tires, Picco Engines, Triton RC, Novak Electronics, SMC Batteries and Up-Grade RC for the amazing products and the continued support."
