Michigan State Championship Series Report:
Report by Edwin Hartman

On Saturday September 21st, the Michigan State Championship Series circus traveled to the Northern part of Michigan to visit the track of the Northern Michigan R/C Club (NMRCC) in Gaylord, MI. Unfortunately the weather was not good on Thursday and part of Friday, so the NMRCC crew had to work hard to get the track in shape on Friday afternoon. Late afternoon, practice finally started and the weather started to look better. No rain overnight had the hopes of the racers up, but right when practice was about to start on Saturday, it started raining again. As soon as the rain let up (for the most part), the program was getting on the way, but due to a late start and the weather forecast still not looking great, the program was cut down to 2 rounds of qualifying, followed by the mains.

1/8th Scale Nitro Buggy
After 2 rounds of qualifying, it was Shane Snyder who put his Kyosho at the top of the qualifying list and at the front of the grid for the A main.

After a fairly clean start of the A main, it was Shane Snyder in the lead, closely followed by Larry Komisar, Mike Marshall and George Berridge. Since the track had gotten quite rough, positions changed almost every lap. The man on the move was TLR's Mike Marshall who slowly made his way forward and taking over the lead for a moment on lap 14, but then he dropped back to 3rd place again. It was a close battle up front between Shane Snyder, Tony Carnes and Mike Marshall, who recovered and took over the lead again on lap 21. Mike was able to hold on to the lead until the end, but behind him it was a battle royal and when the 20 minute war was over, it was TLR's Mike Marshall claiming the win, Futaba/M2C/VP PowerMaster Fuel sponsored Tony Carnes in second and Shane Snyder in third.

1/8th Scale Nitro Truggy
TLR's Jay Chura was able to put in a clean run in the first round of qualifying to claim TQ honors.

After the start of the A main, Jay Chura was able to stay up front for a few laps, but the field was right behind him. On lap 5, Shane Snyder managed to get by and into the lead, closely followed by Jay Chura, Mike Marshall and Larry Komisar. Shane and Mike managed to open a small gab to 3rd, but it became obvious that this race would come down until the line at the end of the 20 minute race. Shane was putting in solid laps, but after a super fast 2nd pit stop, Mike Marshall managed to get by with Shane on his tail. Mike made a small mistake letting Shane by. At the end of the 20 minute race, it was Shane Snyder crossing the line in first, TLR's Mike Marshall in second and Jay Chura in third.

After a fairly chaotic start, it was Paul Edwards in first, Matt Breasbois in second and Team Durango's Edwin Hartman in third, but things changed rapidly. While Paul Edwards was slowly checking out from the field, behind him it was a battle for survival between Gary Watts, Ron Jackson and Caleb Henry, swapping positions pretty much every lap. When the 10 minute main finished, it was Schumacher's Paul Edwards in first, Nankin Hobby Racing/Panther/DE Racing sponsored RJ Hart in second and local hero Ron Jackson in third.

2WD Short Course
The rough conditions were especially hard for the 2WD Short Course class, but this didn't bother young George 'G3' Berridge as he had a lot of speed and claimed an easy TQ.

After the start of the main, George 'G3' Berridge got a clean start, followed by Gary Watts, Team Durango/Futaba/Pro-Line/TrakPower sponsored Edwin Hartman and local Clay Chambers. While George was slowly pulling away from the field, the battle over 2nd place was constantly changing. On lap 7, bad luck hit Edwin Hartman to put him out of the race, handing 2nd place over to Gary Watts, who still had his mirrors full with Clay Chambers. At the end of the 7 minute race, it was George 'G3' Berridge taking the win, followed by Gary Watts in second and Clay Chambers in third.
