Round 1 of the 2014 JBRL Electric Series visited IERC Raceway in San Bernardino, California and was greeted by a record 400+ entries. More popular than ever, the JBRL Series includes a variety of indoor and outdoor tracks across Southern California, with participation from some of the top factory drivers in the region. Needless to say, competition is intense in all the classes offered.

Competing in the 2WD Modifed Buggy, Pro 4 Short Course, and 1:8 Electric classes, Reedy factory driver Barry Baker intended to start the season on a high note. Planning on racing the entire series, Baker sought to build an early points lead and put the pressure on his closest competitors from the get-go.

In what many consider to be the premier off-road class in the series and in the U.S. as a whole, 2WD Modified, Baker came back from a poor start that saw him fall as low as ninth to take the win with his Reedy-powered buggy. Both Barry and his teammate, class TQ Kevin Motter, chose Reedy Sonic 540 Mach 2 motors, Reedy Competition LiPo batteries, and Reedy’s all-new Blackbox ESC.

Pro 4 Short Course is where drivers can really lay down some power. Thankfully, Barry had the tools to do just that with his Reedy-powered 4x4 SCT. Using a Reedy Sonic 544 Mach 2 motor, Competition LiPo batteries, and Blackbox ESC, he unfortunately came up just short and had to settle for second place points.

Baker was pretty much the dominating factor in the 1:8 Electric Buggy class. Starting from the pole position, Barry led wire to wire for the win in the 10-minute main event to take maximum points and another cool plaque. A Reedy Sonic 1512 motor and Competition LiPo battery powered Barry’s RC8.2e.

Thanks to the JBRL for creating an exciting series for participants, and IERC Raceway for hosting this event at their beautiful facility.
