Race report from Midwest Nitro Series:

Perfect if I had one word to describe Mid West Nitro Series Rd3 at Thunder Road Hobbies that is the word that would come to mind. Prefect weather, Perfect layout, Perfect track conditions, Perfect racers, Perfect Sponsors.....Okay you get the idea.. So onto the Report
Rd3 was held at Thunder Road Hobbies in Moline IL just behind the Quad Cities Airport and just a few miles from the Mississippi River that splits IA and IL. The TR track crew had been hard at work leading up the the race and they did not disappoint as "BIG AIR" was enjoyed by all as well as a fast yet tricky track challenged even the fast guys. Unfortunately race entries were down a tad as this weekends race was held on the rain date and many racers had other obligations and we at MWNS understand this but do look forward to seeing everyone again at Rd4 In Peoria IL at River City Raceway on Saturday August 9th.
This rounds dash for cash was for the Int. Buggy class thanks to the Dash For Cash Title Sponsor Lance at RcRenew/Picco/Alpha for engine(s) being donated and the raffle ticket money going to the Dash for Cash drivers. We raised over $350.00 that paid out all 8 drivers of the inverted starting order.
Jeremy Sonnier would take the win after starting 7th, Jake Martens 2nd place after starting 1st, and Kevin Battefeld ended up 3rd after starting 8th, George Nikolauo 4th started 4th, and Brian Matiasek ended up 5t after starting off in 5th.
E-Buggy was an intense race as always with Collin Weatherholt looking solid taking TQ in all three rounds of quals with Tyler Jones right behind him in all three rounds as well looking like the TLR 1-2 punch duo would be in full force. After the tone sounded Collin would take off and never look back. Tyler Jones in the other hand had some company from Allan Richards for the second half of the race swapping the 2 and 3 position every few laps with Tyler getting it together and securing the 2nd place podium leaving Allan on the last step in 3rd Mike Murphy would trail in the shadows looking to capitalize off Allan Richards mistakes but it just didn't happen so he would have to settle with 4th place a lap up on 5th place Chris Aschliman who would snake him out of a bump up in the nitro Bmain.

4x4 SC/ 2WD SC
Due to the low entry the SC classes were the ones that were hit the most it seemed. Only 3 4x4 SC and one 2WD SC showed up so we ran them together Allan Richards was on his own level putting 2 laps on 2nd place Gregg Mccarty and Lee Vanderspool, Brian Burton took the TQ and win in 2WD SC.

Intermediate Truggy would be Dave Smrekar setting the TQ and after a bad start to the main would get it under control and take the win over 3rd place qualifier George Nikolaou with George setting the hot lap so he had the truck to get the job done, 2nd place Hunter Dreffahl would have to settle for 3rd having a flame out at the start of the race even though Dan Lick Jr. looked like he would be locked into 3rd place until a mechanical malfunction would take him out of the race with four minutes to go leaving him to finish in fourth place.

Pro Truggy was all over the place during qualifying with a different TQ each round but after the 3 rounds were over it would be Brian Delong starting 1st on the grid but it would be Britten Curry who would jump to the front of the pack on the 3rd lap and never looking back then it would be Sonny O who would make his way up to second place but a mechanical failure would end his race at the twenty minute mark letting Brian back up to second place step on the podium with Joe Couch running in third place but also bowing out early even with the issues Sonny would finish in 3rd place.

Intermediate Nitro Buggy would again show that no one would be dominating the class with a different TQ each round Jeremy Sonnier would come out on top of qualifying. Roughly 5 minutes into the race George Nikolaou would grab the lead and then Jeremy would take it back a few laps later and then 6th place qualifier Kevin Battefeld would sneak in with 5 laps to go and take the lead and hold onto it until the end with 8th place qualifier Jake Martens making his was up to third place.

Pro Nitro Buggy would be the highlight of the day with return of Tyler Jones to the MWNS to keep the Weatherholt boys in check and honest. Collin Weatherholt and Tyler jones both took turns with a TQ but Tyler ended up with one more to take the overall TQ. at the sound of the Tone Tyler would be gone then 3 laps in Collin would get a taste of the lead but then on the next lap Tyler would get back by for the lead with Sonny O following close waiting for a bobble from one of the young guns but it was not going to happen until Collin dropped out with three minutes to go moving Derkek Weatherholt up to second place and Wade Aronson up to third then with just over a minute to go Derek dropped out handing Wade Aronson 2nd place and Derek would fall back to third place.

As always with out our awesome sponsors for the series and the great track crews that give us some killer layouts at each stop of the tour this would not even be possible.
So PLEASE support these companies because with out them none of us would be able to race this great hobby!
