Race report from XRAY (by Josh Wheeler):

XB8 & XT9 US Pro Cup Champion

This past weekend in Chico, AMain and The Dirt Racing put on the Labor Day Shootout and the last round of the US Pro Cup. For the US Pro Cup it came down to Ryan Lutz and myself to compete for the title and $5,000. Joey and Aaron from The Dirt built a amazing track that was high speed and a lot of fun to drive. It was a 3 day event with practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday and mains on Sunday.

Qualifying started Saturday morning with great weather and the track looking good. In the truggy class I ended up 3rd the first round with Ryan Lutz getting the TQ and Phillip Atondo with second. The second and third round went much better with me getting the TQ in both rounds which gave me the overall TQ for truggy. Buggy qualifying also went well with round one Austin Blair getting the TQ with me in second close behind. The second round of buggy Ryan Lutz got the TQ and I again finished second really close behind. The third round would determine the TQ and I was able to take the win and also the overall TQ. My buggy was feeling really good and ready for the main.

Sunday was main day and again we were fortunate with good weather. The truggy main was up first and was 30 min in length. Early in the main Lutz had a problem and it would leave Phillip Atondo and myself in a really tight battle. I had the lead at the beginning but after a small mistake and a tangle up with lap traffic I found myself a couple seconds behind Phillip and we were running very similar pace with no mistakes. I followed Phillip for 23 laps and was finally able to capitalize on a small mistake with 2 laps to go. I would go on to the overall win with Phillip Atondo second.

The buggy main would decide the winner of $5,000 and bragging rights for the US Pro Cup. The race started with myself in first and Ryan Lutz right behind, unfortunately Ryan had problems early and put him out of the race. I was able to get out front and it looked like clear sailing until the first tire came unglued. I came in for a tire change and was put back to 3rd or 4th, I came back to 2nd and another tire then came loose. I then had to make two more stops to change tires so I could make it until the end. After a tough battle I was able to get back to first with a few minutes left. The track held together very well and AMain put on another great race.
