The pressure was on in the sixth round of 2WD, as each driver’s worst round is thrown out it was important for every driver to try to improve on their previous worst. Some drivers who really needed the help blew the opportunity, while still others came out of nowhere to improve their positions heading into 4WD. In fact, two of the young Europeans put on a show!

Tanner Denney got the holeshot from the pole position and checked out, finishing 2.8 seconds up on the field after the five minute main event - but behind him wasn’t that easy. Joona Haatanen ran in second for the first six laps before crashing on the triple, which let Rick Hohwart and Steven Hartson into second and third. Just one lap later, however, Hohwart crashed over the triple and put Haatanen back to third. With one minute to go, Haatanen got out of shape before the straightaway and JP Richards and Dustin Evans moved up to third and fourth.

The drama started before the race, as Drew Moller hit the wall and sawed off the left front - even after the grace period he didn’t make the grid in time for the start of the race. Jörn Neumann pulled a big wheelie off the grid from the outside of row one and Kody Numedahl took the holeshot. From fourth on the grid, Spencer Rivkin hit Neumann in the 180 heading into the chicane, which put Tessmann to second and Michal Orlowski to third. 1:45 into the race Orlowski crashed over the triple, which moved Neumann back to third. At the 4:10 mark Numedahl went wide in the Pro-Line Point 180 on the right side, which let Tessmann to the inside to take the win.

Daniel Kobbevik defended the inside row one starting spot and took the holeshot, then held on for the whole first lap. Coming up to the triple on lap two, however, he went wide before the triple and Cavalieri and Tebo went by. At 2:00, Cavalieri went wide before the chicane and Tebo snuck to the inside - one minute later, both crashed over the triple and Tebo held onto the lead. Meanwhile, Daniel Kobbevik made another mistake on lap six and Barry Baker, who had an early battle with JR Mitch, got by for third and closed in to the leaders as the top three finished within a second.

After the completion of the 2WD portion, which marks the halfway point of the Invitational competition, the top three drivers are tied atop the points standings - Jared Tebo, Ryan Maifield, and Steven Hartson. Defending 2WD World Champion Jared Tebo is leading the way, with his three wins leading the tiebreaker over his competitors. Two-time defending champion Ryan Cavalieri is fourth, just two points off the the lead, as he was able to eliminate one of his bad runs yesterday.

Here are the overall points standings at the halfway point:
