The finals for the JConcepts Winter Indoor Nationals at SmacTrac in St. Charles, MO ran yesterday, with triple A-Mains determining the winners for 2WD and 4WD Modified Buggy, and single 8-minute finals for the remaining classes. The competition for the top titles of the event came down to two rising stars in electric off-road racing.
2WD Modified
Nick Gibson led from the start of the A1, but came up short on a double jump and allowed JP Richards to pass. A few laps later, Richards made a small mistake in the sweeper and collected Gibson. Michael Schoettler won ahead of Richards and Gibson. In A2, Gibson maintained his advantage and pulled away, while Richards crashed at the end of the straightaway and let Schoettler by for second. In A3, Schoettler moved to second after Richards crashed on lap seven, and while he poured on the pressure Gibson held on for the title.

Despite heavy pressure from JP Richards at the beginning of A2, Schoettler never cracked - and sped off to the overall win. A late mistake from Richards allowed Cody Hollis and Brad Dean into second and third. With Schoettler sitting out A3, Richards led tone-to-tone ahead of a terrific battle between Hollis and Michael Twilling, which closed up on the lead and set up a three-way battle drag race to the finish line.
