What started as a fledgling class that grew in popularity as drivers at the Dirt Nitro Challenge found a way to get a little bit of extra track time, the Electric 1/8-Scale Buggy division has exploded into separate skill level divisions as well as a 40-and-over designation. The top Pro Electric Buggy class is full of drivers from all manufacturers vying for a marquee win against increasingly an increasingly competitive field.

HB-HPI Racing frontman Ty Tessmann may have been beat by his teammate in Pro Truck, but he returned the favor on defending Pro E-Buggy champion David Ronnefalk with a convincing round one TQ. “It was good, better than yesterday,” said Tessmann, who’s running a Tekno RC conversion for the HB D812. “I didn’t change much, the track just developed a groove and got better like we thought it would,” said Tessmann, who had a clean run and took it easy through the whoops section, jumping three doubles and rolling the last. Unless the track totally changes for the second round, he doesn’t plan any changes.

“It was really good,” said Jared Tebo, who made no changes to his Kyosho MP9E TKI after yesterday’s practice. On the first lap of the race, however, Tebo over-jumped the triple and under-jumped the next lipped double, spinning his buggy off of the track. The following lap, two cars crashed before the left-side step up and left Tebo nowhere to go, which again knocked his upside down and spun him around. “I’m really happy to come back from that - both cost me a little bit of time,” said Tebo, who ran AKA’s new Chainlinks in Soft compound. Despite the track being really wet at the beginning, he said the tires were awesome. “I really started picking up the pace the last couple of laps,” said Jared, who is planning changes to both his E-Buggy entry and his ST-RR Evo, as both cars feel like they’re squatting too much and causing the front tires to balloon. He may try either adjusting anti-squat or going to thicker center diff oil.

Tekno RC’s new top driver Ryan Lutz got off to a rough start, making several bobbles over the first few laps but didn’t need any turn marshals. “The car felt loose when the track was wet, but as the bite came up it got better.” Lutz had no idea where he had finished for the round, and reacted strongly to being told he scored three points. “What?! I’ll take that! I had to get a good one in. It felt like a 20th, so I’ll take a third.”
