DANA DOMINATES IN NORTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR TLR DEBUT

Mike Dana drives to victory in 1/8th Nitro Buggy at Northwest Regional Opener

Under sunny warm skies in Wenatchee Washington the first round of the 2015 Northwest Championship Tour (NCT) kicked off with 200 entries of the fastest outdoor racers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia and Alberta, Canada in attendance.

In the 1/8th Nitro Buggy class it was local favorite and recent TLR signing Mike Dana who stole the show starting seventh from the grid, passing into the lead on the second lap and never looked back. Stretching his lead out to 22 seconds, setting the fastest lap and lapping up to second place, the TLR driver put it into cruise control to ensure victory on the very rough RC Car Club of Wenatchee (RCCCW) layout.

"After the main, there isn't one thing I would have changed on my 8IGHT 3.0, the JConcepts Chasers, the Nova Keep-off 4. Man, it was just amazing. The track got really rough. Honestly, I was expecting way more competition after struggling a bit in qualifying; starting seventh, or basically mid-pack out of 12 cars going into a tight 180 degree first corner and a super challenging whooped out off camber third corner isn't ideal, but there were a couple of openings for clean passes and I put myself into third place at the end of lap one and into the lead in the same off-camber on the second lap. After that, I just started flowing, staying on my tires and hitting my lines. I guess I was just in the zone concentrating and focused on my pit guy Corey Ecalbarger because I was shocked to hear the RD say I was 22 seconds up on second place; so shocked I actually lost my concentration a little and made a couple silly mistakes toward the end. After that I backed it down and cruised in for the W. It was a strong finish to the weekend and a GREAT way to start the NCT series."

The NCT resumes Memorial Day weekend at The Hank Perry 240 in Spokane Washington.
