Race report from XRAY (by Malin Karlsen):

XB2 on podium at Grenland Cup 1/10 Buggy 2WD R3

Me and my dad travelled to Skien, Norway to take part in round #3 of the Grenland Cup 1:10 2WD Buggy (my first time participating in the 1/10 series).
We arrived just in time to put 3 batteries through my Xray XB2 prototype to test some different rear tires and settings. With the much warmer weather and higher grip than on previous visits to the track we settled on a different rear tire than we normally have used at this track (which later on turned out to be the wrong choice).

For the first 5 min qualifier I had issues with my electronics making the car very hard to drive until it on lap 7 came to a complete stop. Upon inspection it turned out the connector for the on/off switch had worked itself out of the ESC and shut it down.
For the 2nd and final qualifier I managed a 2nd place to line up as #2 on the starting grid for the 3 x 8 min. A-finals.

For the A-finals I knew I had to try and stay with the very fast local Associated Team driver Joakim Nicolaisen and hope for a mistake to have any chance of taking the win.

Unfortunately I made a mistake early on in the 1st final which gave him space to run his own race from the front while I had an increasingly more difficult buggy to drive which ultimately resulted in several small mistakes on my part and a 3rd position.

Not happy with the nervous and edgy behavior of my XB2 we changed to a fresh set of Mini Spike 2 rear tires which instantly transformed my buggy. Not only was I a bit faster but much more importantly way more consistent. Unfortunately, I clipped a corner on lap 4 which cost me too much time and let the #1 buggy get a gap I was never able to close again. But with the new tires breaking in my buggy got increasingly easier to drive and I could take a comfortable 2nd place.

For the 3rd and last final I once again tried to stay with the #1 buggy and this time around it was his time to make a couple of early mistakes which gave me a comfortable lead I could manage to the end.

Really happy with another podium with my XB2 prototype, especially among the very fast local drivers, even though we were chasing setup on what turned out to be the wrong tires for the day for our buggy. Lesson learned until next time!
