Have you ever met one of those people who when they see something, that's all they can talk about, think about, and dream about? I am that person. After reporting the release of the all-new Team Associated SC10GT earlier this week, that is all I can think about!

Back in the early 2000's there was nothing more awesome (in my opinion) than racing gas truck. Showing up for races with full heats of the nation's best drivers "bumble bee-ing" there way around the track. I can remember my personal favorite to watch was always Taylor James, Richard Saxton, and local legend Steve Hale. All three of those drivers have throttle fingers that twitch and move faster than you can blink your eye. Combine their twitchy throttle fingers with the distinct sound and wheelies of a gas truck, and they were a sight to watch!

I've discussed electric mod truck and how I THINK and HOPE that it is making a strong comeback, however, NEVER did I see a chance of gas truck returning until now. I still believe that actual 1/10 nitro stadium truck is dead, however, with Team Associated releasing the all-new SC10GT this opens the door for possibly a whole new generation of gas truck racing!

The SC10GT is NOT the first nitro powered short course to hit the market, however, it is one of the first race-inspired (despite the fact it is currently sold as a RTR). Short course is a personal favorite class of mine racing electric, and I see potential for other manufacturers to take their existing 2wd electric short course platforms and offer a nitro version to create a whole new nitro class that will replace those distant memories of gas stadium truck!

Nitro 1/10 short course could be setup with the same rules as gas truck with a combo of electric short course rules:
  • .12 engines (this is the most common competition size engine smaller than a .21)
  • Same wheel and tire rules as electric Pro2
  • Same length and width rules as electric Pro2
It would also allow short course enthusiasts to race both electric and nitro considerably easier as many of the parts, wheels, and tires will interchange.

I realize that I may be jumping the gun a little with nitro 1/10 short course racing, however, whether you are an old time gas truck racer or new generation short course racer...wouldn't YOU like to see manufacturer's all jump in and create a new class for nitro junkies! Just think...its gas truck handling and fun, mixed with body banging action of short course!

My favorite gas truck memory caught on camera...I beat Jared Tebo fair and square. Ok, that's a complete lie, he was lapping me for the 3rd time in this photo, but that's the story I tell people.
