R/C Screwz screw kit
Starting at $20.95 (varies with the different car kits)

There is nothing worse than getting screwed out of an A-Main run because of missing, broken, or bent screws. Not always, but occasionally you have probably noticed that the screws included with your car kit tend to round-out the heads, break, and/or bend easier than you feel they should have. To remedy this problem, we went screw shopping. There are various screw kit manufacturer's in the R/C industry, all of which provide specific car screw kits including the necessary screws and nuts to replace ALL of the stock ones. Most all of them provide high quality stainless steel screws. Not all of them, however, provide a handy carrying case that has each type of screw organized, necessary "L" wrenches to fit each, AND additional washers and set screws. R/C Screwz offers all of the above with each of their stainless steel screw kits.

While we were impressed with what all was included, the REAL test came when we began swapping out the stock screws with our new stainless steel R/C Screwz kit. The heads of each screw provide a good solid fit and are deep enough, unlike some, to ensure your wrench is secure in the screw to prevent rounding off your wrench or the screw. In addition to holding your car together, the stainless steel appearance is clearly not stock (as most stock kit screws are black), and provides some added bling to your ride as well.

Pros:
  • Includes re-usable organizer box
  • Includes "L" wrenches to fit each screw included
  • Includes all screws, washers, nuts, and set screws PLUS extras
  • Secure fit on your wrench
  • Shiny and bling-alicious
Cons:
  • ...

Conclusion:
There are a lot of very quality screw and screw kit companies in the R/C industry today. R/C Screwz is one of the originals in the industry, and provides a high quality screw kit, handy re-usable organizer, and spare "L" wrenches with each and every kit. Surprisingly (with all that is included) the price is still competitive with other kits, and is well worth every penny.

DE Racing "Borrego" 1:10 buggy wheel
$6.95 (pair)

The dish style wheel has been around for years and years. Spoke wheel fads come and go, but most end up back running a dish wheel in the end. DE Racing offers an entire lineup of dish wheels ranging from 1:10 scale, SCT, all the way to 1:8 scale known as the "Borrego" line. The "Borrego" wheels by DE Racing have put a twist on the traditional dish wheel by offering a variety of colors including black, white, florescent yellow, and silver. In additional to the colors, DE Racing have also given a beadlock appearance to the outer edge of each wheel for added style points.

The "Borrego" wheels fit tight on the hub which eliminates play and the threat of "spinning a wheel" on the hex. The plastic has a slightly softer feel than some others on the market, which is not necessarily good or bad, just an observation. Once installed, the wheels definitely have style and make your car look unique with it's beadlock appearance. That same beadlock appearance is also the downfall of the "Borrego" wheel as it collects mud and dirt rather quickly, and takes more scrubbing than a standard dish wheel to clean.

Pros:
  • Available in black, white, yellow, and silver.
  • Good fit on the axle wheel hex.
  • Unique beadlock appearance.
  • Available for 1:10, short course, and 1:8 vehicles.
Cons:
  • Collects dirt quickly and is slightly harder to clean.

Conclusion:
Overall we appreciate the unique look, style, and color choices that DE Racing has brought the standard dish wheel. We don't mind packing an extra tooth brush to clean wheels because whether you are racing or bashing, the "Borrego" wheels stand out amongst the crowd.

THURSDAY TESTIMONIALS - RANDOM ITEM OF THE WEEK:
Each week outside of the R/C world we test out and use a variety of items in our daily routines that have absolutely nothing to do with R/C, and THIS is what we think of them!

Pandora Radio
$FREE (sort of)

My job is based around working on a computer. While I do get breaks from the constant staring at a computer to occasionally test a product or two, for the most part I spend the majority of my day working on the world wide web. For the first year of my job I sat silently in my office working away listening to the occasional car drive by outside or singing in my head. One day while posting up a race report for Panther Tires, I searched "Panther Tires" to find their website, and my brilliant Google search somehow landed me at Pandora Radio.

Long story short, apparently in the world of Google searches more people search for the word "pandora" than they do panthers, OR Google search is doing its part to save environment by thinking I wanted tires made of panthers, so it distracted me with music. Regardless of how I got there, I ended up on Pandora.com and was instantly jamming out to my favorite tunes.

If you don't know what this site is all about, let me sum it up. You type in your favorite song, and the site creates a radio station based around that song with similar artists, songs, etc. Technically it is free, however, I am convinced that by creating a free account your computer becomes a home to what I call "Radio Gnomes". I'm not sure exactly where they live at this point, but these gnomes are always watching you. As soon as Pandora radio starts becoming "just a noise in the background" to you, they INSTANTLY shut it off. This forces you to pay attention to Pandora by going to the site and clicking the "I'm still listening" button to hear more music. Supposedly you can pay to eliminate the interruptions, but I don't want to be the guy who gets the gnomes laid off work...especially not in this economic time.

Pros:
  • Free radio with songs you actually like.
  • Saves panthers from being made into tires.
  • Keeps you awake at work.
Cons:
  • Gnomes live somewhere nearby.

Conclusion:
The idea of Pandora Radio is brilliant, and all kidding aside is a very cool site. No longer do I sit in an awkward silence of the office, and neither should you! So CLICK HERE, type in a song, and start JAMMING OUT!
