JConcepts Metric Washer Set
$9.35

There is nothing more irritating than trying to set your roll center, wheelbase, or general shimming of loose parts by using stacks of leftover washers. Not to mention, they look like the same silver washers you would use to shim the flusher on your toilet with. I live by the motto, "You can't go fast if you don't look fast." With that being said, I was tired of looking at the stacked up piles of stock silver shims on my car and decided to try out the new JConcepts Metric Washer Set.

The washer set includes a total of 16 washers (4 of each: .5mm, 1mm, 2mm, 3mm thickness). The washers are finished off with a royal blue anodizing for that added "fast guy" appearance, and come in a resealable bag so you won't lose the precious washers you aren't using at this very moment.

Where normally we would have to use six .5mm washers piled up, we can now use ONE 3mm washer. This makes installation, changes, and removal of the washers SOOOOO much easier!

Pros:
  • Includes the most common used thicknesses (.5mm, 1mm, 2mm, 3mm).
  • Works great for roll center adjustments, setting wheel base, and general shimming.
  • Using calipers we found these to be 100% accurate in thickness.
Cons:
  • For our specific application we would like to see a few less 3mm, and few more .5mm washers included.
Conclusion:
While the stylish JC Metric Washer Set did not actually enhance our performance or driving skills...we do in fact LOOK much faster than before. These are not your standard washers, therefore you will pay a little more for them. On the flip side, the accuracy, appearance, and ease of use they provide is worth the extra money in our opinion.

LRP High Power Soldering Station
$220.00

Since the beginning of time, MOST R/C racers have had to solder some thing at some point in their racing career. Whether it be batteries, esc wires, motors, capacitors, and/or a list of various other things. Most racers, such as ourselves, are accustom to using your "standard" soldering iron which is nothing fancy, but provides adequate heat to get the job done. Some time ago LRP released their "High Power Soldering Station", and it just so happens we finally got the chance to try one out.

Let us start by saying that this soldering iron has more bells and whistles than the average household vehicle. Digital readouts, temperature tuning adjustments, auto-sleep feature, backlit display, and more. We flipped on the machine and were quite impressed with what all it had to offer. To test the LRP High Power Soldering Station we decided to solder and un-solder an entire esc and motor setup on our vehicle.

The LRP station is very easy to use and solders well, however, we did not feel that it worked any better or worse than our standard soldering station. The major difference between the two is the fancy features and digital readout the LRP station includes, that ours doesn't. These trick features, however, we did not feel enhanced the performance of the soldering iron. They DID however drive up the price, costing us three times as much as our standard soldering station.

Pros:
  • Easy to use and operate.
  • Features full digital display.
  • Relatively lightweight.
Cons:
  • For $220, the long list of fancy features did not seem to enhance the performance over a standard soldering station.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, the LRP High Power Soldering Station is in fact a very good system. It works very well, it looks very cool, and it has some very cool features. We did not feel that it worked any better than our standard unit which doesn't include the fancy looks, digital readout, auto-sleep feature, etc. With a price tag of over three times the price of most quality soldering stations, we will stick with our classic non-digital, "old school" soldering iron and save our cash for a rainy day.

Anti-Monkey Butt Powder
$5.95

Let me start off by saying, I know what you are thinking...and before you think I'm making this up, let me tell you a story. Last weekend I made my way down to announce a race in western Kentucky. Needless to say the weather in western Kentucky was a little on the muggy and hot side of things. Not to mention with the on and off rain showers in the area, there was a lot of moisture in the air. After a hot day of qualifying, sitting, announcing, and apparently creating friction in my chair, I returned to the hotel room feeling a little..."chafed" you might say. I simply made the comment to my travel companion/father "Homer" that my butt was sore from the day. He walked straight to his suitcase, pulled out a yellow bottle of powder saying, "Monkey Butt Powder. Works everytime."

I laughed a little, and then realized that my dad was 110% serious. There is in fact an awkward product on the market made just for sore butts, and even more awkward is my father carries a bottle in his suitcase at all times. No way on earth was I going to use something by the name of "Anti-Monkey Butt Powder".

A few hours of laying with my butt towards the fan had passed, and I was still feeling the burn of a hard days work. So, I decided to give in and try out this magical butt powder.

Folks, let me tell you...I am not embarrassed to say, "THIS STUFF WORKS!"

Pros:
  • Entertaining label and bottle.
  • Makes your butt feel as cold as ice.
  • Available in travel, regular, and economy sizes for the occasionally chafed, daily chafed, and SUPER chafed butts.
  • Smells good...well...smells as good as butt powder can smell.
Cons:
  • It works so good, you will go to work and tell the world in an online review that you used butt powder at last weekend's R/C car race.
Conclusion:
The advertisement I found says Anti-Monkey Butt Powder is "ideal for butt busting activities such as truck driving, motorcycling, bicycling, horse back riding, and extreme sports." They can now add "R/C race directing on a hot Kentucky day," to that list of butt busting activities, as this product is 100% Mike Garrison approved.
