Week after week you hear racers whining and making excuses for poor finishes claiming, "The car is junk," or "Well yeah if I had a new car like him I'd win too." This is most often seen when pro drivers visit for a night of club racing. I have heard it for years now, the same whining excuses time and time again.

In MY opinion, there is no "junk" car on the market today. Each and every car, whether racers will admit it or not, have their pros and cons. There is no magic car out there that make fast drivers go fast, they go fast because they have the talent and skill to go fast. Does a bad setup make a car feel like junk? Sometimes, however, a truly fast driver will go fast with almost anything...bad setup or not. Obviously when you have 20 top pro drivers that are tenths of a second apart in speed, that setup becomes far more crucial, but when a driver beats you at the track by 10+ seconds...it's up to YOU and your driving to make that time up, not your "junk" car or your setup.

It is almost a guarantee that when a pro driver is in the house, someone will comment that they could go just as fast if they had his new cars. Once again, there is no magical car that makes these drivers fast, they are just plain fast! While it may seem as though pro drivers have new cars every race, in fact most of them do not (especially not for club racing). Some race the same exact vehicle for an entire season, just like you and I. Why do they always look new then, you ask? Because racing is their job, and like any job they take it very serious. This means hours and hours of maintenance and clean-up after just a night of practice, and constant preventative maintenance before each and every time they hit the track.

Last, but not least, I am SO tired of hearing how fast the pros are because they have prototype stuff. Yes, I agree that new prototype and factory parts enhance a car's performance. Do they enhance the car's performance enough to take you from last to first? No. Do they enhance a very skilled professional driver's time by tenths of a second over the next very skilled professional driver? Possibly. I would venture to say if you handed any pro driver a RTR version of his car, he would still dominate majority of the racers at a local club race...no prototypes or "factory secrets" to help out.

The moral of this story is DON'T MAKE EXCUSES. When a driver beats you, he beats you...no excuses. When you beat a driver, you beat him...no excuses. A fast driver is fast because he has talent, not better equipment. A different car, setup, or prototype parts cannot make a good driver out of a bad one. So quit whining, be thankful for what you have, and instead work hard to learn from these faster drivers and push to reach their level.
