R/C car racing is expensive, and it's not always the big items that break the bank, often times it is the little items that continue to add up over time. One of those items is motor spray. At roughly $9-10 per can, it doesn't take long to spend $100+ on JUST motor spray in racing season. Not to mention motor spray / brake cleaner is straight up gnarly stuff.
Paul Lemieux, of Gravity RC, went in search of an alternative for motor spray that saves on cash, is environmentally friendly, and works just as well. His search was a success as he introduced the Gravity RC Propel Rechargeable Motor Spray Canister. This canister allows you to mix up your own cleaning solution (such as Simple Green and water) or straight denatured alcohol for a motor spray alternative, air it up with an air hose, and spray away!
Pros:
- Allows you to create your own mixture of cleaner out of household soap and cleaners.
- By adding air to the canister, it gives almost any liquid mixture a "spray can feel."
- Includes multiple straws and nozzles to keep you spraying for months.
- For those looking to replace motor spray, while the initial cost is $30, over time it saves significantly as denatured alcohol works just as well and is significantly cheaper than motor spray.
- Very lightweight for travel.
- Fully rebuildable.
Cons:
- No cap to protect the spray nozzle in travel.
- Most heavy duty bicycle hand pumps with a gauge will not work as the valve stem is not threaded, therefore an air compressor / air hose is required (which can be hard to tell how much air you've put in it).
Conclusion:
Whether you are looking to trade in expensive motor spray, or simply have a propelled mixture of soap and water to clean your buggy, the Gravity RC Propel is an innovative new way of doing so. We have used the Propel canister with denatured alcohol to clean out bearings, with Simple Green and water to clean our cars, and even mixed up a little brew to clean those hard to reach corners of the shower. If you don't mind taking a little time to mix up your potion and air up the canister, this is a very useful, cost effective, and fun tool to have in your box.

Muchmore Racing Tire Glue

Choosing tire glue is like choosing what to order for lunch, it's all up to you and what you like. Personally we are a fan of thin, fast moving, and fast drying glue. While thinner glues can be harder to work neatly with, they take very little time to get the job done. Lately we have heard of more and more racers using Muchmore Chemical Series CA tire glue, so we decided to try it for ourselves.
The Muchmore rubber tire glue comes in a 20g bottle and includes optional applicator and "thumbtack" style plug to seal it up when finished.
Pros:
- This glue goes a LONG way, as only a drop or two will run around the bead sealing the tire to the wheel.
- Dries fast...real fast. Like fast enough that if you blink, your fingers might be glued together for good.
- Makes a very strong and durable bond between the wheel and tire.
- It costs only $4.99 (almost half the price of some other glues)
Cons:
- Ever since gluing all of our stuff to the bottom of our travel bag after a similar glue lost it's "thumbtack" plug, we prefer to see actual screw-on tops that ensure a good seal.
Conclusion:
Let us start by saying that we had no clue Muchmore even offered a tire glue, and to our surprise they not only offer one, but a good one at that. If you are looking for a thin glue that likes to move fast, dry fast, and hold strong, this is for you! Careful though, if that little orange tack gets lazy on the job, you'll wish you'd bought glue with a more reliable lid...trust us on this one.

Kitten named Bradley

It has been awhile since we've featured a "Random Item of the Week," and I felt as though today was as good as any to bring it back. Today's random item is named Bradley. He is a small kitten in which was given to my family as a gift. The engineers behind this new kitten designed him to be a friendly companion and aesthetically pleasing with ultra-sleek stripe design. When we heard the price of $0, how could we pass that up! It's not often that a new best friend costs zero dollars, so we decided this was a no brainer, and instantly adopted him.
Pros:
- He has furry stripes like a zebra that remind me of Cody King's MP9.
- His meow sounds a little bit like a speed control when calibrating it to your radio.
- Uses his state of the art teeth and claws to eat any and/or all insects, rodents, and small items in the home.
- Compact and lightweight for traveling.
- Enjoys spending time with you.
Cons:
- His Cody King furry zebra stripes absorb the smell of the litterbox in which he finds both useful, AND fun to play in.
- His calibrating speed control meow does not ever calibrate, and continues throughout the night.
- Uses his state of the art teeth and claws to also attack human hands, feet, faces, and hair.
- Compact and lightweight for hiding in your car, backpack, and/or R/C bag.
- Enjoys spending time with you...while building ball diffs.
Conclusion:
After a thorough product test on the new "Kitten named Bradley," we have decided that aside from the excessive amount poo in his hair, never ending meows, loss of blood due to his attacks, number of times we are late to work returning him home after finding him in the car, and hundreds of lost diff balls...we still love the little guy. If your bored, want something for free, and need a buddy, we highly recommend going out and getting a "Kitten named Bradley."
