None of the four major divisions had a guaranteed TQ after three rounds, leaving the door wide open for some serious drama. Instead, this weekend's two fastest racers finished up qualifying with dominating performances which should terrify their rivals starting further back in the grid.

Racing Truck Modified

Using the run as an opportunity to test different tires for the main event, Ryan ran Soft Typos and said, “they were pretty good, but a little bit grabby. The track was faster, and it would be gnarlier to race with those tires. It was a risk - they were too edgy to drive hard and I was just able to hold on. They could be good if I need to do something crazy in the morning to find grip, but I just wouldn’t prefer it.”

Jared Tebo ran Medium Typos up front and Softs in the rear, and said, “It was really good. They had a lot of traction, the tread is just too low. Overall, the truck feels great going into tomorrow.” When asked what it would take to beat Ryan tomorrow and defend his national title, Jared said, “Not crashing.”

“My truck was really good again, and that run put me ninth in the main,” said Cody Hollis. “I really like the mid-motor chassis, and I tried to find the right tire combo to calm down the front end.” Cody said that his tire sponsor, JConcepts, is out of the new prototype Dirt Webs tires, so he ran Blue Pressure Points all the way around.

“My truck was really good for being rear motor,” was how Brandon Marsh described his T4.2 after a clean run with no mistakes. “I knew it would end up being close with that finish,” said Marsh after learning that he qualified 12th overall.

4WD Buggy Modified

“The car was just awesome,” said Dakotah of his TLR 22-4. He continued, “I went to MX compound and it was easier to drive so I could push a lot harder.” When asked if starting up front would be an advantage, Phend said “Yes, to a certain extent because you can just take it easy. Starting up front, it’s going to be super important and not let everyone by.”

Defending champion Ty Tessmann said his Hot Bodies D413 was “a little bit loose to start, but the best it’s been at the end.” He ran freshly rebuilt differentials, which his father Gord said they should’ve broken in more thoroughly before the heat. Ty feels like he’s got more pace through the right side of the track, but notes that Dakotah gets through the left side faster.

Ryan Cavalieri has been making changes to his B44.3 all week long, and made further adjustments based on information gathered from many of Associated’s team drivers, finally getting the car to the point where he was happy enough with it to use choice language to describe the turnaround.

2WD Short Course Modified

“I think my truck will be good in the morning,” said Ryan Cavalieri after wrapping up the overall TQ with the final round win. Ryan thinks that starting up front will be a big advantage in short course, and he wasn’t surprised to do so well after the way his SC10.2 worked in practice. “My truck has been really good all week,” said Ryan.

After finally receiving the parts needed to convert his TLR 22SCT 2.0 to mid-motor configuration, Ty finished second behind Ryan and just narrowly ahead of Ryan Maifield as the top three went 19 laps. “It was quite a bit better, and just easier to drive,” said Ty.

2WD Buggy Modified

Going into the final round of 2WD, only Dakotah Phend and Ryan Cavalieri were mathematically in contention for the overall TQ. With the tiebreaker combining the laps and time of both point-paying rounds, Cavalieri would’ve needed to win the round with a 20-lap run. After a few crashes, however, Cavalieri pulled over to regain focus and finished up outside of the top 10. Meanwhile, Phend sped off to another very fast time and and made a statement on who the favorite is heading into tomorrow.
