Following yesterday's leak that Adam Drake had joined Mugen Seiki Racing, the three-time ROAR National Champion confirmed that while he's excited to be racing here at The Dirt Nitro Challenge, there's nothing set in stone yet - and he may not continue with the team after this week. You wouldn't know it by looking at Drake's nitro buggy and truck, which look as though he spent just as many hours building and preparing them as if he were settling in for the long haul - it's clear that, while he has had a smile on his face since drivers began arriving to the pit area ahead of the only day of practice, "The Drake" means business this week.

The temporary (for now) deal with Mugen Seiki isn’t the only one - he’s also running Mugen’s Flash Point fuel, but that would most certainly change if he ends up with another team for the long term. He’s also using a Futaba 4PX radio this weekend, but will switch to the Hitec Lynx 4S as he continues with his long-time servo sponsor.

I grabbed each of the three Mugen Seiki vehicles Adam will be racing to take a few photos in the rising Arizona sunlight as curious onlookers strolled through the pit area.

Notes: Adam bolted a VIRTUS head to the engine for break-in and practice, but it’s a Mito 4 under there.

Notes: Though Adam’s MBX7R and MBX7T are built as the kits come out of the box, I spotted him drilling on the chassis near the rear suspension mounts - we’ll see what he’s up to later in the week!

Adam Drake’s electric buggy

Chassis: Mugen Seiki MBX7R ECO

Notes: The nitro buggy and truck are all Adam’s, but because the deal to run for Mugen this weekend was put together so last minute he went through Tim Long’s personal buggy rather than build his own.
