McBride and Moller score big wins at Silver State

There’s been a nitro off-road race run in Las Vegas sometime during the spring since 1999, but there’s perhaps no event in RC history that has changed locations and promoters as many times as that which bears some form of the name “Silver State.” This year’s edition kicks off on Thursday at RC Tracks of Las Vegas, sure to attract a large international turnout since it’ll be held at the 2016 IFMAR Worlds host facility.

Last year, the race was operated by Joey Christensen’s “The Dirt Racing” at the Boulder City R/C Speedway, about 40 minutes outside of downtown Vegas. Two underdogs hit the jackpot with huge wins.

Off-road veteran Josh Wheeler took the Pro Electric Buggy class win with his XRAY buggy, finishing ahead of Kyosho’s Jared Tebo and HB/HPI Racing driver Ty Tessmann. In Pro Nitro Truck, Drew Moller (then with Mugen Seiki) scored perhaps the biggest win of his career ahead of Tebo and Carson Wernimont (also with Mugen Seiki at the time). And in Pro Nitro Buggy, Australian Kyle McBride scored the biggest title yet for an Aussie on U.S. soil, as the then-Kyosho driver beat Tessmann and Tebo.
