The 1st Annual Idaho Carpet Classic Presented by Shane Borden and LRP happened this passed weekend. There was great and close racing in all the classes ran throughout the weekend. We were also able to raise $602 for the people directly affected by the very unfortunate fire at Focus RC. Two of the guys affected were able to borrow cars and equipment from racers from both Utah and Idaho to be able to still make the trip out to the race, it was amazing to see how fast everyone was willing to jump to the opportunity to help any way they could.
In 2wd Modified Presented by JConcepts it was Shane Borden who was able to take the TQ in Qualifying, then went on to win A1 and A2 of the triple A Mains to win the overall. Tim Hethcox had a rough A1 but was able to recover to a nice 2nd overall with a 2nd in A2 and the win in A3, then Aaron Williams was able to take his 3rd in A2 and 2nd in A3 for a 3rd overall on the weekend.
In 4wd Modified Presented by TLR Cameron Kellogg was able to take the TQ in Qualifying, then in the triple A Mains Cameron and Chad Evarts would battle for the overall in all 3 mains, with Chad taking the overall with a 1/2/1 score against Cameron's 2/1/2 results after the triple A Mains. Tim Wallace would round out the podium in 3rd overall with his pair of 3rd place finishes in A1 and A2.
In 2wd 17.5 Buggy Presented by RC Speed Secrets Tim Hethcox had a dominant weekend with taking the TQ in Qualifying, then going on to win A1 and A2 to take the overall for the weekend. Gary Ovitt Came from 4th on the grid to take 2nd in A2 and 1st in A3 to finish 2nd overall and Kevin Williams would come from 6th on the grid to place 2nd in both A1 and A3 to take the last spot on the podium with a 3rd overall for the weekend.
In 4wd 13.5 Buggy Presented by Proline Racing Carrol Culver was able to take the overall TQ in Qualifying. In A1 it would be Blake Vandermeer that would take the win but Carrol would go on to win both A2 and A3 for the overall. Blake would finish 2nd in the following 2 mains to finish 2nd overall for the weekend. Kevin Klein would put in one of the best weekends of racing he has had in a very competitive class to finish 3rd in all 3 mains to finish on the podium in 3rd overall.
Congratulations to all of the other class winners including Tanner Leduff in Novice, Gary Ovitt in 2wd 40+ Open Buggy and Open SC, Mark Pisterzi in 2wd HW Spec Buggy, Aaron Williams in Open Stadium Truck, Kelsey Jerome in Sportsman, and Kevin Klein in 4x4 Stadium Truck.
