The 2nd Annual Karsyn’s Krusaders Off-Road Challenge was held on Saturday, August 11th at LRT Raceway in Evansdale, IA. Karsyn’s Krusaders is a local charity that raises money for families affected by cancer through selling t-shirts, hoodies and other merchandise at full-scale dirt oval tracks all around the country. This years RC event brought 60 entries to LRT Raceway from Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and Wisconsin to compete in a wide range of classes from 2wd Short Course to 1/8 Nitro Buggy. Many great companies donated prizes for the raffle which was a big hit. Raffle ticket sales and Karsyn’s Merchandise sales raised $740 for the charity.
Huge thanks to all the racers that attended for their outstanding generosity and to all the companies that donated prizes. Hobbico, Horizon Hobby, Avid RC, Pro-Line, Jconcepts, For the Win, Byron Fuels
On to the racing action: LRT provided a fast, smooth but extremely technical layout that suited all classes well. The groove quickly came up and with temps only climbing into the upper 70’s, engines were running crisp and tire wear was pretty good.
2wd Open Short Course was a battle all day between Associated teammates, Alex Vanderbeek and Bubba Boggs. Both drivers had their SC10’s dialed in and with nearly identical paint schemes it was at times hard to tell who was who. Boggs took the overall TQ after 3 rounds of qualifying but positions would be swapped in the main, with young Alex driving very smart race to take home the win, followed by Boggs and Eric Besane in 3rd
4wd Open Short Course was the 2nd biggest class of the day and one of the most competitive. Qualifying would come down to Danny Bartholomew and Jason Bloom, who split the TQ honors in the first two rounds. Bartholomew had a great run in the 3rd round, which secured the TQ. The main started with an early mistake by Bartholomew which was wiped out by a small glitch with the computer and the trucks were called back to the grid. Bartholomew took advantage of his 2nd chance and got away clean with Bloom and 2wd winner Alex Vanderbeek in tow. The race stayed pretty tight for the first half of the race but a couple bobbles allowed Bartholomew to stretch out the lead and cruise home for the win, with Jason Bloom 2nd and Alex Vanderbeek in 3rd.
1/8 Sportsman Buggy: Race MC Jason Chandler set down the mic just long enough to take TQ and winner honors in the sportsman buggy class. Joe Cox would bring home 2nd with Dustin Salter in 3rd.
1/8 Sportsman Truggy: The most exciting race of the day was between Aaron Martin and Nitro Al Larson in sportsman truggy. The two battled back and forth the entire 15 minutes and with two corners to go Nitro Al was leading but as they crossed the finish line Aaron Martin took home the win! Nitro Al in 2nd, with Delane Braun 3rd.
1/8 Electric Buggy: Tony Bacon would start off a great day on the track with taking the TQ and win in Electric Buggy. Aaron Martin was 2nd and Nitro Al Larson finishing 3rd.
1/8 Pro Truggy: TLR’s Taylor Timmerman would be dominate in qualifying and that would carry into the main, despite some early pressure from Tony Bacon’s Losi and the Mugen of Matt Wilcox. Timmerman would pull away for a decisive win, Bacon bringing home 2nd and Wilcox in 3rd
