Press Release From JConcepts:
www.jconcepts.net
We have officially kicked off the 13th season of the JConcepts Indoor Nationals Series! We started the season off in San Diego, California, at SDRC Raceway! We’ve been to SDRC a few times over the last year or so, and it’s always been a fantastic experience! The weather is gorgeous this time of year, sunny and 70, what more can you ask for? We arrived Thursday, ready to get on the track and set up for the weekend. The facility has many features such as lighted indoor pit areas, a tire wash center, a hobby shop, an indoor 1:10 scale track, and an outdoor pit area. Not to mention, there are plenty of food and lodging accommodations in the area!
The track layout was enjoyed by all the drivers! Stay Tuned for our official track walk video, taking you, in detail, around every turn and jump! You can get a general idea of the layout in the photo above. For tires, drivers ran Smoothie 2s all the way around. We now offer Smoothies for 2wd buggy, 4wd buggy, short course, and stadium truck! Tire sanding is officially a thing of the past! Drivers often opt for RM2 hard foam in the front for buggy and grey dirt-tech foam in the rear. The program for the weekend remained standard. We had practice and seeding on Friday, three rounds of qualifying on Saturday, and mains on Sunday!

A1: Dakotah Phend led the race from start to finish after taking the TQ spot. Spencer Rivkin and Aydin Horne ran two and three close together for the majority of the race. The top three pulled away from the rest of the pack, and Rivkin and Horne were tracking down Phend. In the final 60 seconds of the race, Rivkin went over the triple on the far left and got a little squirrel on the landing. Horne was close enough to capitalize and moved into 2nd. In the final 10 seconds of the race, Rivkin got it wrong over the far-back double and Maifield finished out the race in 3rd. The top three were Phend, Horne, and Maifield.
A2: A2 of 4wd Modified Buggy as clockwork as usual. The top four held the same positions from tone to tone. The main swap happened on lap 5 when Ryan Maifield got by Davey Batta and took over 5th. The race concluded as Phend, Rivkin, Horne, Rinderknecht, and Maifield. Dakotah Phend took an early overall win after taking A1 and A2.
A3: Spencer Rivkin led from the starting tone. He continued to pull away and cruise along on his Sunday drive. Ultimately, he led from start to finish with a 7-second lead over 2nd place. On lap three Rinderknecht, Batta, and Maifield were all close together going over the back double. Batta got sideways over the tabletop jump. Rinderknecht and Maifield got by in a close battle. Through the next turn, Maifield got by Rinderknecht and took over 2nd. He held on for a couple of laps before Rinderknecht took it back and Maifield fell back. Meanwhile, Tollard and Horne were sitting tight in 3rd and 4th, waiting to make their moves. On lap 15 Rinderknecht had a small bobble, and Horne/Tollard were close enough to capitalize taking over 2nd/4th. The race concluded as Rivkin, Horne, and Tollard.
13.5 4wd Buggy: Levi Raymond (2), Sammy Moran (3)
13.5 Short Course: Brenden Edwards (1), Sam Ford (3)
2wd Modified Buggy: Dakotah Phend (2), Ryan Maifield (3)
A1: Aydin Horne was the top qualifier in 2wd Modified Buggy. He led the race from start to nearly finish, before a surprise move from Phend on the final lap. Positions 3 and 4 remained the same for the entirety of the race. Ryan Maifield was in 3rd and Tom Rinderknecht was in 4th. On the final lap, Horne and Phend went over the back double. Phend made a last-minute decision to launch his car over the tabletop jump and landed right in front of Horne. He landed the jump and held onto the lead all the way to the line. A1 concluded as Phend, Horne, and Maifield.
A2: In A2 Horne led the entire race with virtually no issues. On lap 4 over the left side triple, Phend got a little wonky and Maifield moved up into 2nd and Rinderknecht to 3rd. Phend was only in 4th for one lap before moving into that 3rd place position. Besides that, the race was relatively uneventful. It concluded as Horne, Maifield, and Phend.
A3: It came down to A3 to determine who would win the overall 2wd Modified Buggy title. This race was the most chaotic. If you look at the replay or the live scoring lines, you’ll see the jumbled mess of position changes. Horne led on the tone with Phend nearly touching his bumper. Maifield was sitting in 3rd. Rinderknecht was looking for a spot to get by Maifield. Rinderknecht got upside down, and Maifield had a little more breathing room. The top three cars started to pull away from the rest of the pack. As Horne and Phend approached the back double, Phend was side by side with Horne. They tapped each other a little bit, Phend punched it, and got into the lead. Rivkin made his way up the ranks and joined that top pack that had originally separated from the majority. Horne was looking for a way around Phend, he tried to take the inside line on the final turn before the straightway but got a bit tipsy. Phend and Rivkin were the top two. Moments later, Rivkin got caught on the pipe into the 180, and Maifield got by into 2nd. They went into the back double once more, Phend got a little sideways, and Maifield also got a little sideways, but managed to pull it off. Phend was left on his lid. Rivkin was close enough to capitalize and passed Maifield before the left-side triple. Rivkin was now in the lead. Phend was running 3rd, but as he went to cross the line, he snagged the pipe and fell back. Rivkin continued to lead the way. Batta had been sitting back, and capitalizing on all the mistakes happening in those top positions. When it was all set and done he was able to put himself in 3rd for the round. The race concluded as Rivkin, Maifield, and Batta.

40+ 2wd Buggy: Brent Thielke (1), Allen Horne (3)
13.5 Stadium Truck: Matt Olson (1), Brenden Edwards (3)
A big thank you to Sean Story and his crew for hosting a phenomenal event along with all the drivers that came out to race! We will be posting our INS13 recap video soon. This is something new we are trying out to help those at home stay up to date with each of our events! Up next in the INS13 series is the Spring Indoor Nationals at Adrenaline RC Raceway! New this year, the series is best 3/5 for INS. This is the same as it has been in years past. The only difference in 2023 is that the final round is mandatory if you would like to be considered for the series points for either series. Attendance at Hobby Action is mandatory to be a part of the INS 2023 season points. In the meantime, we’re gearing up for the Dirt Nitro Challenge at the end of the month!
