The "Derby Hangover" race at Hoosier R/C Hobbyplex served as a thrilling showcase of skill and competition, reaffirming the track's position as a premier racing destination in the region. As the racing season progresses, enthusiasts can anticipate more exciting events at this esteemed venue.
In the fiercely contested and largest class, 17.5 2wd Buggy, Team Losi's Charlie Cavalier dominated qualifying, securing the top spot with an impressive six-second margin over closest rival, Team Associated’s Greg Niklas (Stats provided by LiveRC). Cavalier continued his dominance in the main event, leading from start to finish and clinching victory, while TLR teammate Ben Ellis secured a podium finish with consistent driving throughout the race.
Meanwhile, in the 2wd Mod Buggy class, Team Yokomo's Brian Dunbar set the pace in qualifying, claiming the top spot on the grid. Dunbar jumped out to an early lead in the main and began to stretch it out, until mechanical issues plagued the Yokomo driver, opening the door for Ben Ellis of Team Losi to capitalize and secure the win. Ellis held off hard charging Adrian Stillwell while Adam Rayls rounded out the podium.
Amidst the intense competition at the Derby Hangover, the vintage classes added a nostalgic and thrilling dimension to the event. In the 1998 and newer rear motor class, Eddie Henly showcased his expertise by top qualifying and clinching victory with his vintage B3. Henly's mastery of the classic buggy platform demonstrated both the enduring appeal of older models and his own formidable driving skills, earning him well-deserved recognition among his peers and spectators alike.
Equally impressive was Brian Dunbar's performance in the 1997 and older class, where he piloted his Team Losi JRX2 to top qualifying honors and a commanding win in the main event. Dunbar's mastery of the vintage buggy platform harkened back to an era when R/C racing was in its infancy, yet his skill and precision on the track were as sharp as ever. His victory served as a testament to the enduring legacy of iconic R/C models and the timeless thrill of competition, captivating both seasoned veterans and newcomers to the sport.
