It was an emotional weekend at the 2024 Italian Touring Car Championship, held at the Road Race mini racetrack in Riccione. Drivers gave it their all, fighting with determination to win the class titles after passing the qualifying stages for the 2024 Championship in the Divisional Italian Cup races held between April and July.
At the end of an intense weekend that saw robust attendance and impeccable organization by the Road Race staff, the fate of the 2024 title was already decided in the qualifying sessions on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. The drivers who secured Pole Position for the Sunday afternoon finals in fact confirmed their superiority with solid performances in the three final rounds.
MODIFIED: Mattia Collina, an undisputed champion
Despite a difficult start, marked by an error on the first lap of Saturday’s timed practice, Mattia Collina (Team Schumacher) managed to get back on track, securing Pole Position after four hard-fought qualifying rounds. Collina then dominated the finals, securing the title after the second round, beating Alessio Menicucci (Team Xray) and Gabriele Berselli (Team Marka - Awesomatix). This has been a golden year for Mattia Collina, who added the Italian Indoor Champion title from February 2024 and the Italian Endurance Champion title, won with the “Team Schumacher powered by EZ Power” in the 12-hour race in Fontanellato in August.
STOCK: Federico Collina, a heart-pounding victory
Federico Collina (Team Schumacher) experienced a heart-pounding final in the Stock class. After impeccable qualifying that earned him Pole Position, an error in the second final put his victory at risk. However, Collina managed to stay calm and defend himself in the third final round, securing the title ahead of Andrea Simari (Team Xray) and Federico Randi (Team Marka - Awesomatix), who completed the podium.
GT: Alessandro Rampini, the weekend’s dominator
Alessandro Rampini (Team Schumacher - Treerremodellismo) had a perfect weekend in the GT class. With an impeccable performance in all phases of the race, Rampini secured Pole Position in the qualifiers and dominated the final rounds, winning the 2024 Italian title. The young Alex Cresti (Team Schumacher - Treerremodellismo) earned a well-deserved second place, followed by Matteo Simari (Team Xray), also showing great improvement.
FWD: Jacopo Antonelli, the man to beat
Jacopo Antonelli (Team Marka - Awesomatix) was the undisputed dominator of the FWD. From the qualifying rounds, Antonelli showed his superiority, securing Pole Position and dominating the final rounds, winning the 2024 title. Andrea Tonini secured an excellent second place, always very competitive in the FWD class, while William Carrato completed the podium with an excellent performance throughout the weekend.
