Press Release From Asian Buggy Champs:
www.asianbuggychamps.com
After five days, 200-odd entries, and a little over 18 000 laps, round one of the 2025 Team Cayote Asian Buggy Championships is done. Jayden Edmunds grabs the headline win, the biggest in his young career, with a fine drive in Nitro Buggy.
We’ll get to the details in a second – but first another huge thanks to Counties RC for hosting us to open the 2025 series. Wonderful hospitality, a unique track that produces nail-biting racing, and a lovely part of the world to visit. Thanks also to all of our sponsors and supporters, including Team Cayote, our Title Sponsor for 2025.
We'll be back late this evening with a full set of podium shots, and our extended Sunday gallery.
NITRO BUGGY: EDMUNDS STANDS TALL
Jayden Edmunds has worked through this week, making some difficult decisions along the way, and came out on top in an extraordinary 45-minute decider. It took a few minutes for the field to settle, Edmunds, Kyle McBride, Logan Toia, Jayden Jamieson and Caleb Noble eased away from the rest – each having opportunities and leading at times. Eventually, it settled, Edmunds vs Toia at the front, McBride and Noble chasing, and an ill Jamieson just hanging in there. When Logan flamed out, Edmunds suddenly had a near 10-second lead as Noble worked to second and McBride fell back. Caleb’s pursuit was relentless, bringing him right to the back of Edmunds – and indeed momentarily to the lead before Edmunds struck back. Noble stuck to his task but Edmunds was too strong, easing away over the last 2 minutes to a win he’ll celebrate. Meanwhile, Jayden Jamieson and a recovering Kasey Dawson were locked in their own wrestle for the final podium spot – Jamieson getting to the line third to round out the podium.
EP BUGGY: MCBRIDE RETURNS TO THE WINNER’S CIRCLE
You wouldn’t call A3 a classic by any stretch, a messy first 2 minutes demoting the three in the mix for the overall win – Logan Toia, Kyle McBride and Caleb Noble – well down the order. Kasey Dawson and Jayden Edmunds emerged from the chaos and set about a race-long game of cat and mouse – the A3 win and the final podium spot on the line. Edmunds closed inexorably, and we looked set for a final-lap showdown before the countdown caught him at the line by 0.8 seconds – Dawson left to celebrate an A3 victory lap and a debut Asian Buggy Championships podium.
Kyle McBride, with a win and second on Saturday afternoon takes his first win in this series, a welcome return to victory lane for the multi-time Worlds A-finalist. New Zealand’s Logan Toia, Top Qualifier in the class, takes second after an excellent week’s work in EP buggy, Dawson third.
NITRO TRUGGY: NOBLE DOMINATES
Caleb Noble won the Nitro Truggy final from pole position, in relative ease. The mercurial Australian left his opponents no chance, a near-flawless drive in difficult conditions to make it a second ABC series win in the Truggy class. Logan Toia slipped by Shane O’Connor early but came unstuck, letting Noble away to a lead he'd not give up. Toia in turn was a little too quick for O'Connor, the three having largely untroubled run to the podium.
EP TRUGGY: O’CONNOR THE CHAMP, LANDER IN A3
With Shane O’Connor parked up to watch after winning A1 and A2 on Friday, Jeff Birse and Neil White took full advantage of his absence, fighting out a race-long duel that landed the A3 win and the final podium spot for White, behind O’Connor and Birse for the overall.
MASTERS 45+ NITRO BUGGY: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARREN PERRY
It was a classic battle between the 10-minute fuel strategy of Ben Panic, and the speed of Darren Perry and Mike Stratford. When Panic got to the lead mid-race, still with a pitstop advantage, he looked good. Perry though, is nothing if not persistent and he gradually hauled Panic in. A couple of late-race errors from Ben and a rock-solid final 10 minutes from Darren was enough to send Perry to the winner’s circle over Panic. Stratford just about stayed in touch, but couldn’t quite bridge the gap to the front two.
MASTERS 45+ EP BUGGY: STRATFORD WATCHES ON, PERRY TAKES A3
With Mike Stratford having already secured the overall win, A3 was a straight fight for the remaining podium positions. On a big day for him, Darren Perry took a lights-to-flag win, ensuring he’d finish second overall behind Stratford. Paul Mason's A3 second not enough to overcome Jeff Birse overall – Jeff rounding out the podium behind Mike Stratford and Darren Perry.
