We are less than 24 hours away from celebrating Thanksgiving. This means stuffing our faces with delicious turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, rolls, pumpkin pie, and that weird dish that no one knows who brought it or what it is. My wife volunteered us to host this year’s family gathering and dinner at our house, which means considerably more work and preparation than the usual procedure of showing up late, eating someone else's food, making small talk with relatives whos name you can't remember, and then leaving with all of the leftover desserts.

As we have been preparing, I’ve put together a list of things I’ve learned as an R/C racer trying to host a family Thanksgiving dinner…

Simple Green is a great cleaner for R/C cars and tires but is not meant to be used in the dishwasher.
Brushes used for saucing R/C tires will leave the scent of soft clay compound tires anywhere they are used in the house to clean with.
If you boil plastic R/C parts be sure that you aren’t using the same pot your wife is going to cook mashed potatoes in.
When your wife asks you to re-paint the white trim in the kitchen, she means using house paint – not Tamiya PS-1 White Lexan Spray Paint.
Hanging a new R/C banner in the living room is not considered “freshening up the decorations”.
The phrase “we need to organize this place” refers to the entire house, not just the R/C corner in the garage.
A JConcepts car stand will not pass for a Thanksgiving dinner table centerpiece.
“Family entertainment for the guests” does not include watching the entire series of “Come Drive With Us” documentaries on YouTube.
Fluorescent yellow sponsor t-shirts are not in the Thanksgiving family dinner dress code.
Remember to take your new 2wd buggy you were trying to hide from your wife out of the oven before she goes to put the turkey in to cook it.

Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful for all that we have - including our friends, our family, and of course the world of R/C car racing!
