One of the biggest annual on-road nitro races, the Winternationals in Ft. Myers, FL was held this past weekend. Rain forced the drivers to cope with less track time than anticipated, but Team PROTOform drivers DJ Apolaro and Mike Swauger were each able to put their PROTOform equipped machines on the podium in both the 1/10 Nitro Sedan and 1/8 Nitro classes.
In sedan, DJ dominated the 45-minute long A-main with his PROTOform SRS-N, taking the win by 7 laps, with Swauger in 3rd.
In 1/8, Mike grabbed the TQ spot equipped with a PROTOform PFR18, narrowly missing out on the win by just 1 second after 45 minutes and 210 laps of racing. DJ was on a TQ pace driving the brand-new PFL128 body, setting a track lap-time record in the process, but ran into some bad luck at the end of his qualifer. In the main, he raced to a third place podium finish, a great debut for the new body.
Chuck Moon and Skip Starkey went 1-2 with PROTOform P909‘s in the 1/8 Masters class, with Moon winning the A-main by 1 lap over Starkey.
Congrats to all the Winternationals winners!
