When Leadfinger Racing sent us a teaser of a new "top secret" body last week, we guessed that it might be a new Assassin molded for the TLR 8IGHT 3.0.

As it turns out, we were only half right - as LFR is also testing a HB D812 version of the Lexan lid this week as well!

LFR's Casey Wilson is running the 8IGHT 3.0 body that was only barely visible under the towel in the sneak peek photo, painted in an incredible yellow and orange scheme that stands out brilliantly on the track. Casey explained that it's based on the 8IGHT-E 3.0 shell that has been available for some time, but massaged to fit the differing dimensions of the nitro chassis. The cab portion is raked steeply on all four sides and positioned clear in front of the engine head.

Alex Pilson of REDS Racing USA topped his D812 with the new shell, though he pointed out that the nose cone in this photo may not be what's included. Alex says it's modified from the body intended for the Mugen MBX7R, and that the sidepod areas, particuarly on the pipe side, will likely change before the final version is completed.

It's worth noting that these shells are made of thicker Lexan than what's available from other manufacturers, offering greater durability in a class where a bit of additional weight isn't a huge burden. Both of these bodies are pre-production versions that will undergo at least another round of revisions before the final mold is completed, but we expect that they could hit the market within the next few weeks.
