Future Stars of RC is a regular column on LiveRC where aspiring RC journalist Tyler Hooks has a conversation with fellow up-and-coming racers across the country, covering youth-friendly topics such as school subjects, watching TV, throwing huge whips and, of course, girls. 

The East Coast is a booming place for new young drivers looking to make a name for themselves on a national scale. Lee Setser is a perfect example, with solid showings in both 1/8-scale and 1/10-scale at some of the biggest races in the country. Tyler Hooks asked Lee a few questions about his life and racing career for the latest Future Stars of RC.

TH: When did you first begin racing?
LS: When I was 12 years old. 

TH: What is your biggest racing accomplishment?
LS: Winning E-Buggy at my first-ever PNB.

TH: What is your worst racing failure?
LS: Forgetting to change my ESC temperate cut-off, which cost me a TQ run in 2WD buggy at JConcepts Super cup.

TH: Where do you attend school, and what is your goal for a future occupation?
LS: I attend Plant High School, and I hope to have a career in the RC industry.

TH: What is your favorite class?
LS: 4WD Mod Buggy



TH: Do you have a girlfriend?
LS: No

TH: What do you think of the old saying “girls just get in the way of racing?”
LS: I think it is true to a certain extent. If you have a girlfriend that does not support you in RC, then it can be tough compared to a girl who is with you at the track and supports you.

TH: What is your real dream car?
LS: Ferrari FXX


TH: Huge whips, driving absolutely flat out or more calculated driving, smoother on the throttle?
LS: Driving calculated and smooth is the fastest and safest way to insure you win the race and finish, but you can still throw some huge whips from time to time.

TH: Action sports or conventional sports, what do you follow in your free time?
LS: I really just watch a lot of TV shows but I do, from time to time, watch rallycross and have started watching supercross.

TH: Who did you look up to when you were an even younger racer? Who has been the biggest help to you as a driver?
LS: I looked up to mostly all of the pro drivers in my area: Paul Wynn, AJ Marasco, Jason Ruona, Kevin Abbott, J.R. Mitch, and Daimon Borkowicz. My mom and dad have been the biggest help and Influence to my RC career.


TH: What is the biggest piece of advice you would give to a new, up-and-coming racer?
LS: Don't let anyone tell you can't do this or that, or can't beat this guy. Just put your mind to it, and tell yourself you can, because then maybe you will.
