Future Stars of RC is a regular column on LiveRC where Tyler Hooks has a conversation with fellow up-and-coming racers across the country, covering youth-friendly topics such as school subjects, watching TV, throwing huge whips and, of course, relationships.
I have had the pleasure of watching Spencer Klein race pretty much all year. He is a funny kid with a lot of talent and a pretty solid amount of will to be good at this hobby. I look forward to watching him progress more in the next couple of years.
Name: Spencer Klein

TH: When did you first begin racing?
SK: I started racing in 2018
TH: What is your biggest racing accomplishment?
SK: I have to say just getting were I am today is my biggest accomplishment, it has been so fun!
TH: What is your worst racing failure?
SK: Nitro Buggy at the Southern Nationals, blew a tire taking away any chance of moving on in that class.
TH: Where do you attend school, and what is your goal for a future occupation?
SK: I attend Jenks Middle School and my goal is to hopefully become a pro driver and help with the design and engineering of RC cars in the future.
TH: Do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend?
SK: No, the girls are not really into cars like I am, maybe one day soon.
TH: What is your favorite class for school and racing?
SK: Lunch is my favorite class in school 😊. As far as racing, that’s a tough one. Nitro Buggy and 1/10 4wd Buggy.
TH: What do you think of the old saying “girls just get in the way of racing?”
SK: My mom and sister are very supportive of my racing, so I guess I am lucky.
TH: What is your real dream car?
SK: Koenigsegg one 1
TH: Huge whips, driving absolutely flat out or more calculated driving, smoother on the throttle?
SK: I am a smooth calculated driver for sure!
TH: Action Sports or Conventional sports, what do you follow in your free time?
SK: Action Sports, I love all types of racing and follow F1 pretty closely.
TH: You had a pretty big year in 1/10th and 1/8th scale considering how long you have been racing for, what has been the biggest factor to your success.
SK: Practice and the support of so many people at the tracks all around me. Joe Pillars who has opened so many doors for me, Adam Drake for helping my dad find his way in the pits.
TH: Who did you look up to when you were an even younger racer and who has been the biggest help to you as a driver?
SK: Like most new drivers I looked up to local pros, Todd Sieler, Tim Davis, Steve DeArmon, Marcus Carver and the Eaves Family. I have to say that so many people have helped but the biggest would be my Mugen Teammate Doug Gilreath.
TH: What is the biggest piece of advice you would give to a new up and coming racer?
SK: Have fun, practice, don’t be afraid to ask for help, visit as many tracks as possible and support your local hobby shop! Mine is Indy RC World.
