The 2015 Futaba Electric Challenge held at Leisure Hours Raceway in Joliet, IL is a unique event where the racers run indoor on Saturday and outdoor on Sunday, then combining the two scores from each day to determine a winner. Racers from all over the Midwest were in attendance, but Team Associated was by far the strongest and most well represented.
After the dust settled, Team Associated cars went on to sweep the podium in six of the 1:10 classes ran at the event. Young gun local Austin Wick took the top spots in 2WD Stock Buggy and 2WD Stock SC with his B5M and SC5M. The 2WD Modified Stadium Truck class found Aydin Horne on the top of the box with his T5M, with older brother Austin Horne taking the top spot honors in the 2WD Modified SC class with his SC5M. The highly competitive 4WD Modified class saw Brad Shearer dominate both days with 1-1 finishes to take the overall win with his B44.3. Last but not least, we have the biggest and most competitive class of all, 2WD Modified Buggy, which found the father-son-son Hornes trio out of Michigan swap the 1-2-3 spots on both days, only to end in a three-way tie for the overall championship. Winning the tiebreaker, Aydin Horne finished first, with Austin Horne in second, leaving Al Horne to finish behind both kids in third.
Not only was the race very successful for Team Associated, but also for Reedy who equipped all the winners with Blackbox speed controls and a variety of Sonic motors and batteries.
Overall it was an awesome weekend of racing and the Leisure Hours Raceway crew did an amazing job pushing the program through fast and flawless.
