Naoto Matsukura and Simon Kurzbuch topped the first two rounds of qualifying at the 2019 1/8th IFMAR Worlds at Steel City Raceway sponsored by Infinity. The qualifying rounds have been shortened from 7 minutes to 4 minutes proving difficult for drivers like Rovert Pietsch who would run out of fuel while on a top 10 run.
Matsukura, the only dirver to deny Dario Balestri a perfect seeding day would strike first taking the first round of qualifying at the 2019 IFMAR Worlds. Balestri would finish 2nd the only driver with a 14.4 fast lap to match that that of Matsukura. Jesse Davis would lead the Australian charge ahead of Jeff Hamon. Hamon would be the first driver not driving an Infinity in the top 5 with the 4th place finisher a new addition to the Serpent team this year. The Shepherd of Simon Kurzbuch would round out the top 5 in round 1.
Round 1 Top 20:
Simon Kurzbuch would not post the quickest outright laps of round 2 but consistency would net him the TQ for the round. Dario Balestri would net his 2nd second place finish of the event. Dominic Greiner would be the second Serpent driver to crack the top 5 with a 3rd in round 2. Naoto Matsukura, round 1 TQ, would finish 4th missing the pace he had in the first round. Jeff Hamon would net another top 5 in round 2 finishing 5th overall.
