3D printing has quickly become a popular choice of production methods for many different industries and markets around the globe over the past several years, however, is just recently becoming more and more popular in the R/C industry. What is 3D printing you ask? 3D printing is a process for making a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model, typically by laying down many successive thin layers of a material using a 3D printer, as opposed to the more tradition injection style molding traditionally seen in the R/C industry.
An interesting article by 3D Printing Industry was released yesterday regarding 3D printing specifically in the R/C industry. Schumacher Racing reveals in the article that much of their production is now done using this "new" technology.
"Advances in various types of 3D printing have progressed to the level where they parallel the output quality of more traditional methods of production. A good demonstration of this can be found in a remote control car model that was originally produced using injection moulding, and has now been three dimensionally printed using carbon fibre reinforced polymers. A company that was founded by a rapid prototyping expert who has worked with Red Bull racing has worked with a leading manufacturer of remote control vehicles and accessories to make a radio-controlled car almost entirely by 3D printing...
