CML Race Report:
Last Sunday saw the 4th round of the ever popular CML Winter Series being held at Frankley Model Car Club. The CML series this year has been split between FMCC and Stoke Nitro.
The preparations for race day started on Saturday with the clearance of about 6 inches of snow from off the track. This works at about 4 tons of the fluffy white stuff!
On to race day. The morning started off as a normal cold winters day. The track was in fair condition considering the snow melting and the rain that had fallen over night, so there was few standing puddles but they were quickly swept away.
After an hours free practice, 24 drivers were booked in. Considering the recent weather conditions this was a fairly decent turn out. It was then time to start the heats, the were to be at 7 minutes each.
After all 3 heats where done and dusted, with Jon Howells TQ'ing, it was time for the finals to start. All finals were to be run over 20 minutes because of the fading light and the chilling temperatures.
The C final was also to include the truggies, who had low turnout despite their recent resurgence. The final finished with James Greener (Truggy) taking the win, Steve Price (Truggy) taking the second place and Nick Whitehouse (Buggy) taking third. The fastest lap was set by James Greener with a 45.56 which is blistering pace for a Truggy.
The B final was an all buggy affair. It finished with Kamil Jablonski taking the win, Dave Griffiths in second and Matt Box in third.
The A final finished with Jon Howells taking the win, never losing it actually, Young Jack Embling taking second and Lloyd Pitt taking the third spot. All in all the race day ran smoothly without any major problems.
The FMCC committee would like to thank everyone who turned up to help clear the track of snow on Saturday and also the drivers who turned up to support the club during these cold winter months.
