Race report from Tyler Jones:
My dad and I attended the SRI Showdown in Louisville, KY at SRI Raceway. The one day event pulled in 170 entries from several states. Race format consisted of three rounds of qualifying based on qual points with your best two counting. All classes except beginner ran double A mains.
I ran three classes this weekend. With mod ST being a new class to me. Along with mod 2wd and 4wd buggy.
In 2wd mod buggy qualifying I was prolly in the worst qualifier I have ever been in. I was on tq pace every run but would continually be held up or wrecked by slower cars. After two rounds I was sitting ninth going into last round. It was good enough to put in bottom of A group for last qualifier. I knew with these guys I would prolly get my run in finally!! I flat laid it down third round to tq that round and put me fourth overall. My TLR 22 2.0 was super fast every time on the track. My JConcepts gold Dirt Webs were stuck even with the awesome power being put to them from my LRP electronics. Mains came and I made some great passes thanks to my Spektrum radio equipment and I would win both A mains. My Jconcepts teammate Adam Rayls would finish third with Matt Cline finishing second.
In 4wd mod buggy I would tq first two qualifiers locking up overall tq with my TLR 22-4 hooked up on JConcepts gold Dirt Webs. My LRP electronics had my car flying again. I used the third qualifier to try different compound of tires heading into the mains. Mains came and the first main I was out front and wrecked on center double falling back to third. The same jump bit me several times and I was way back. I got focused and started ripping off laps over a second faster than everyone while laying down fastest lap of the day too. But, would run out of time and finished third that main. Second main came and I got out early and bobbled little allowing second and third to get by. Put my head down and put in laps to retake the lead and come with the win. I would end up second overall behind my TLR teammate Collin Weatherholt who took overall win and Matt Cline in third.
My mod ST debut couldn't have been better!! I built my TLR 22T 2.0 with kit setup so my dad and I could see how truck was out of the box. It was really good!! Had tons of forward bite and caused it to have a slight push. We did a little setup tuning and the truck did what we thought it would. In qualifying I was able to tq all three rounds of qualifying on my JConcepts green Dirt Webs. My LRP electronics had this bad boy ripping! Mains came and I was able to check out and win both mains for the overall win! Doug Powell would finish third and not sure of the driver in second. Those guys drove awesome though and I had a blast running with them!
The SRI crew did an amazing job on the layout and the track stayed consistent all day!! Thanks to you guys for all the work!!
