Following two top-five finishes at the Masters of Dirt this past weekend, Tyler Jones announced that he is no longer part of the Fantom Racing squad.
The 17-year-old Indiana native posted the following to his Facebook page, with no indication of what led to the decision:
"As of today I am no longer with Fantom Racing. I want to thank Jeff Schroeder, Troy Schroeder, and Josh Schroeder for the opportunity’s they gave me. As of now, no decisions have been made yet. See everyone at the next race!"
Jones is one of the fastest up-and-coming off-road racers in the Midwest and was the Top Qualifier in Open 2WD at this year's Reedy Race of Champions. I expect he'll have a new deal lined up soon.
[UPDATE] Oct. 31, 4:39 PM CT
Tyler's father, Randy, emailed the LiveRC press inbox to clarify that Tyler did not quit but that he was let go. The email said, "He didn't choose to leave. He was let go do business reasons is what we were told."
The message lines up with a comment Fantom Racing posted to the LiveRC Facebook page, which said, "We let Tyler go from the team, he didn’t leave us.
