Race report from Tyler Jones:
My dad and I attended the JConcepts 1/8 Spring Nats in Omaha,NE at Hobbyplex. This race would draw in some really regional drivers along with factory driver Jared Tebo. Since it is an indoor style race I decided to run nitro buggy and ebuggy.
In nitro qualifying my RC8B3 was flying on JConcepts Gold Dirt Webs. My LRP engine with The Nitro Shop fuel mileage mod would do easy ten minutes stops while it sipped Bones Brew fuel. Race Ready Products kept my cars clean and shining all weekend! The new VRP Gamechanger shock pistons had me landing on pillows all weekend!
Had a great first round that would put me second for the round behind Jared. The other two qualifiers I just felt like something was off in the car and speed was not there. After all the qualifying I would end up third overall. So, that night after qualifying, my dad and I would tear the car completely apart. Dad found what he thought was the issue and finished the car for main day.
Main time came and I was pretty excited to get going after the five minute A-main warmup session. Car felt like it should and was fast again.
The tone went off and us top three were checking out from the rest of the field. After the first pit stop Jonathan Burkhalter who was in second at the time had a bobble and we tangled letting Jared get away from us. Jonathan and I would battle back and forth until last pit stop and his car died coming onto the straight away. I was able to pull away from him to finish second. But, I had some mistakes on my own that cost me a chance to run closer to Jared. He's a class act and congrats to him!! Jonathan Burkhalter finishing third.
Ebuggy qualifying went pretty good with me running my Team Associated RC8B3e for the first race ever taking the tq first round. But, last two qualifiers I made mistakes and would end up second overall in qualifying.
Main time came for ebuggy and I knew my RC8Be was a missle on JC Gold Dirt Webs also. My LRP electronics were ballistic fast and ripped off super fast and consistent laps!! All the ebuggy drivers but me were saucing their tires. My dad refuses to sauce 1/8 tires so I had to wait for the other guys sauce to wear off in first few laps before I would push the issue of passing for the lead. We ran triple 10 minute A mains. First main, I just followed and pressured the leader until he made a mistake and I took the lead. With less than a minute to go, a wreck twice allowing second place to get by for the win. I wasn't happy with the shock package so we made a change for the final two mains. The change was amazing and I easily checked out in the final two mains giving me the overall win!! Seth VanDalen would finish second and my good friend Hunter Holmberg would finish third.
Thanks to everyone for the support and the belief they have in me!!
