Race Report by Florian Joos
After a short break from racing, due to school exams, my dad and I resumed our racing schedule last weekend. We participated in the fourth and final round of the popular Belgian Lovan Winter Series challenge.
In the morning we first went to the new outdoor track of Roeselare, in the Western part of the country to test our Xray T4 2019 for the upcoming outdoor ETS in Madrid. Once we found a good setup, we hurried to the indoor track of Lovan, which was about 70km further.
We arrived just in time to do a training session with both the modified and stock car. Both cars had the same setup as last time, so I just needed to learn the track as it was a new layout. About an hour later, the first qualifier started. Due to the warm spring weather the turnout was a bit low. There were still over 30 starters in the popular stock class, but the modified class only saw two entries. The time slot for modified was kept, so we could still test the modified car under race conditions.
The main class would thus be the open stock class with over 30 entries. The popularity of this class is mainly thanks to the liberal use, with a free motor, speedo and tire rule.
In stock, I took the overnight TQ with my Hobbywing powered XRAY T4. My main competition would come from the young French driver Jean Hannecart. Jean won the previous Lovan Fun race, held on the same layout. He finished within 2 seconds, so my dad knew he had to do some work on the car.
In the remaining 3 qualifiers, I upped my game and increased my advantage over Jean to over 6 seconds. In the last qualifier we switched from the Phub pink additive to MR33 V4, which made the car slide a bit more, but gave me much more speed. My fastest lap was about .5 than that one of the second placed driver.
The battle for the P2 starting spot was however fierce between Jean, Yves Zoma and Mathieu Da Rocha, with Mathieu having a disadvantage to race in the slower group. After the last qualifier, the 3 of them finished within .7 of a second, with Jean starting from P2 and he was followed by Yves and Mathieu with local racer Stefan Rommens taking P5.
With this being the last race of the season, I could also win the overall title, as only 3 of the 4 races would count for the overall ranking. As I knew my car was handling great and I had quite a big margin during qualifying, I just took it easy during my 3 finals and won quite easily. By doing so, I also won the overall championship.

I also won the overall championship, in which 72 drivers participated. Eric Sautereau finished in P2 and Yves Zoma in P3.
My modified car was also really good and super consistent. I managed to set a new track record with my T4. During my first final, my best laptime was 14.319 and my average time 14.476 which shows how great it was to drive. I also won the overall championship in modified in front of Remi Callens and Hugo Ragaut.
