LMP-12 National Championship Round 1 Results

On Saturday the opening of a new LMP-12 national championship was held at the fabulous Eastbourne club in the south of England.  This will be a very important season for British LMP-12 racing, with a home world championship taking place in January 2020.  For this reason alone, a very competitive national season is guaranteed.

With multiple categories raced each day, Saturday saw the new 17.5t class complement 13.5t classes in both the F2 and F1 formulas.

Qualifying:
Markus Askell joined the Schumacher racing 1/12th scale team for the first time and managed to take pole position in the 17.5t class on his first day using the Eclipse 2 chassis.

In the F2 class, Kenneth Rogers had an excellent qualifying to line up 2nd on the A final grid.  He was joined by Schumacher team mate Steve Donald in 4th.

The premier category for the day was the 13.5t F1 category.  In this class Olly Jefferies, started out his world championship preparations with a comfortable pole position using his Schumacher prototype chassis.  He would be joined in the A final by Andy Murray and Louis Parker for the Schumacher team.  This would make Schumacher the highest represented car in the A final.

Finals:
17.5t – Markus, after an early error, would fight back and have a race long battle with Schumacher team mate Andrew Sawyer.  He eventually would make a great late overtake to take the overall win.  Andrew made it a 1-2 finish.
13.5t F2 – Kenneth capitalised on his strong qualifying to take the win in the A final, after some great close racing with many drivers in contention.
13.5t F1 – Olly Jefferies controlled the main event in exemplary fashion.  Such was his control of the A final, he would finish 9 seconds clear of 2nd place man David Spashett.  Adam Catchpole completed the podium.  Andy Murray crossed the line in 4th, just behind in a very close race with David and Adam at the finish line.


Sunday
With a new day, a new start, the categories being raced were Open Modified and Sports Modified (13.5t). 

Qualifying:
In the sports class, Schumacher’s Junior Engineer Nathan Goodban continued to raise his game with a solid 4th place grid spot.  Mark Jewitt 7th and Adam Mackman 9th, joined him in the A final.
The open modified class for this year is fully open modified, with boost allowed it’s a great chance to race, or see these cars at their very best.

Throughout qualifying, Schumacher got off to a fantastic start locking out 1-2-3 on the grid.  Olly Jefferies took pole position from a fantastic drive by Louis Parker in 2nd and Andy Murray completed the top 3 on the grid.  Solid qualifying runs from young Daniel Robins who lined up 6th, and Andrew Sawyer in 9th allowed Schumacher cars to fill half of the A final!

Finals:
Sports Modified – Nathan continued his strong day to move up the order, finishing less than half a second behind 2nd place to make his first lmp-12 national podium finish.  This close race put him and second place man Andrew Smith, only 6 seconds behind the ever strong David Spashett at the finish line. Mark Jewitt finished 5th after a strong run with his Eclipse 2 in the A final.

Open Modified – The Schumacher boys made full use of their pace advantage throughout qualifying to run away with a race only between themselves.  Olly took a clear advantage and managed an easy win for himself while Andy and Louis had an exciting race for the entire 8 minutes to finish in that order.  Louis showed that his A final at the European championships was no fluke, with his result at a national to date. Andrew and Daniel would have strong finals finishing 5th and 6th making it Schumacher cars in 1-2-3-5-6.  Well done everyone!!
