On Thursday, Dec. 2, Losi announced their first all-new 2WD buggy platform in over a decade. The new buggy, called 22, features a laundry list of new design ideas and innovations that have made Losi a leader in every class it has entered in its 22-year history (coincidence? We think not.).
Remove the incredibly narrow body and you'll see an aluminum chassis, a first for Losi in a 2WD buggy and the first from a major manufacturer since the original RC10; Losi says they chose aluminum not only for durability, as the chassis features no rear T-plate and will have better wear, but for the ideal longitudinal and torsional flex. And, depending on how you choose to build the kit, you'll find either a mid-motor setup with traditional 3-gear transmission or a 4-gear tranny and mid-motor setup that is right at home on high-grip tracks.
It doesn't stop there; big bore, bladder-equipped shocks not unlike those from the 8IGHT-series of cars and trucks are standard, as is the metric hardware that is used throughout the car (in fact, Losi says that most of the car requires just a 2mm wrench). Caster is adjustable via different spindles, which are also available with inline or trailing axles, among a host of other possible adjustments.
All this and more is packed into a footprint that pushes the maximum ROAR- and IFMAR-legal limits for stability, while Losi engineers took advantage of the weight savings from LiPo batteries and brushless systems to add material in high-stress areas for extra durability.
