Race Report by Luke Lee
Last weekend was the final round of the UK F1 Nationals, and with the arrival of our baby girl on Wednesday night I initially decided not to attend so unbooked from the meeting but Saturday night we changed our mind and went on Sunday, but this meant however that I was placed into the bottom heat for qualifying as a late entry to the meeting.
Having not been there on Saturday I went out in the early morning practice unsure what the car would be like, but the car was on pace, and even though the grip was low my times were competitive
Into qualifying and even though I started at the back of the bottom heat I worked my way through and took TQ in the round, beating everyone in the top heat by a good margin, and also taking the new track record at Bedworth - Round 2 I started at the front of the heat and the car was even better than before as the grip had come up, a clean run here meant I broke the track record again by going onto the next lap - Rounds 3 and 4 were not so good, small mistakes from me and not being able to progress through the slower cars as quickly meant I didn’t beat the track record again despite the car being faster, but I still managed to TQ every round ahead of everyone in the top heat
Onto the finals and on pole with a clear track ahead of me I didn’t look back in leg 1, I managed to create a gap and keep it for the whole race Leg 2 was not so straight forward, a mistake on the opening laps dropped me down the field and I tried to work my way though, but a few cars were beginning to struggle with rear grip under braking so on a couple of occasions we touched resulting in me waiting for them to regain track position ahead of me, eventually I worked my way through the field and with just a minute to go there was a big gap to the lead car but I pushed hard and on the penultimate lap I was nose to tail, and I made a hard move to get passed but pushed the leader into a slide so conceded the place back, with just one lap to go I tried a few places to get passed but eventually just a couple of corners from the end I managed to find a way past and took the win by just 0.17 seconds
Despite missing practice on Saturday I had the fastest car all day, proving that the Xray is fast no matter what the circumstances.
Formula Results
This was the final round of the national series, and overall I took the win with the maximum possible score, winning every meeting I attended of the series, once again showing how dominant and fast the Xray car is.
